New York can be a scary place, especially if you’re visiting with your dog for the first time. Not sure where to stay next time you visit? There are thousands of hotels in Manhattan alone, and not all of them are pet-friendly, well-located, or even rated!

The Grand, York Hotel Review

To make your life easier, Mike (Steve) and I have compiled a list of the best dog-friendly hotels in Manhattan. Our recommended pet-friendly hotels range from modern to central and luxury hotels. And while nothing in New York is cheap, some of the hotels below qualify as “budget.” If you’re focused on a specific Manhattan neighborhood, scroll down to find a Google Maps guide with the location of every dog-friendly hotel.

The Standard High Line is an ultramodern, pet-friendly hotel located in New York’s Meatpacking District. What do Mike and I like about this hotel? a lot of things. For example, The Standard eliminated pet fees in mid-2016 and generously donated all of its 2015 pet fees to the ASPCA. Dogs and cats can now stay for free in all standard hotels.

The location on the Standard High Line is also unbeatable. In addition to being surrounded by some of New York’s best restaurants, bars and retail, The Standard High Line is within walking distance of Manhattan’s West Village and Greenwich Village. It’s also one block from the Hudson River Park (a beautifully landscaped riverside path for walking or jogging with your pooch) and the High Line (a beautifully landscaped surface trail for people to walk – unfortunately, dogs are not allowed on High Line). The hotel itself has a popular outdoor German beer garden, The Standard Grill restaurant and a fun rooftop disco that is packed on weeknights (Le Bain). The hotel is also one block from the Whitney Museum of American Art.

The Best Pet-friendly Hotels In The Us

Mike and I have been to The James New York Soho several times to visit the hotel’s always trendy rooftop bar, JIMMY. The hotel itself has an excellent reputation and was named one of the 40 best hotels in New York by Conde Nast Traveler. In addition to premium amenities, The James is very pet-friendly and offers complimentary pet amenities and premium amenities (easy access to doggy day care, dog walks, etc.). The location in Soho is also unbeatable. The SoHo area is full of great restaurants, bars and shops and is within walking distance of TriBeCa, the West Village, Greenwich Village and Nolita. This is a great option if you want to avoid the touristy parts of New York (ie Times Square) and explore a more unique and interesting part of the city.

Do you want to be closer to the city center? James is located in the newest location in Manhattan’s NoMad neighborhood (Madison and 29th Street). While Mike and I prefer the Soho location, The James – NoMad definitely gives you easier access to downtown, the theater district, Times Square, etc.

The Bowery Hotel describes itself as “luxurious, refined and exotic,” and we have to agree with all three. The Bowery Hotel is a great hotel in the heart of downtown. The hotel has an old-fashioned feel – common rooms are decorated with antiques such as old maps, velvet furniture and tapestries. The hotel lobby (The Bowery Lobby) has a great bar offering creative cocktails and food from the neighboring Gemma Trattoria. Dogs up to 60 pounds are welcome at no extra charge and may be left in the room unattended. The Bowery is within walking distance of some of our favorite restaurants and bars in the city (Momofuku Ko and Speakeasy Angel Share to name a few). A great dog park is just 0.5 miles away at Washington Square Park.

The modern, pet-friendly Gansevoort Meatpacking Hotel is located in the heart of Manhattan’s Meatpacking District, just down the street from The Standard High Line. It is also one of the few hotels in New York with a rooftop pool. The pool is simply the jewel in the hotel’s crown and a great reason to choose the Gansevoort over the others if you’re planning a summer vacation. Gansevoort also has a fancy rooftop bar with amazing views, expensive cocktails and a relatively large tourist crowd. My roommate (Steve) and I bought a table here for our birthdays when we were 23 🙂 One thing to keep in mind… the rooftop bar is very crowded and noisy at night, especially on weekends. Recently, hotel guests complained about hearing music late at night.

Mercure York Fairfield Manor

As a New Yorker, I really like the NoMad Hotel and have been here many times – for lunch at the NoMad Restaurant, coffee meetings at the Atrium, and cocktails at the NoMad Bar. This hotel is luxurious, modern and never disappoints. This is one of my top recommendations for friends and family visiting the city and/or looking for a place to eat or have cocktails.

In addition to its central Manhattan location, the NoMad is a great hotel that welcomes dogs at no extra charge. According to The NoMad website, “NoMad New York is set at the turn of the century

Completely restored to its original grandeur…” In-room amenities and decor such as freestanding tubs, faded Persian rugs, velvet canopies and embossed leather headboards give each suite a sophisticated Old New York feel. I didn’t own an apartment in New York. I stay here every time I visit the city.

The Soho Grand is another great hotel in Soho, close to The James New York, pet-free and the gorgeous Soho Grand Dog Park, which is open to hotel guests and members only.

Pet-friendly Hotel Rooms & Accommodations

As with the other hotels on this list, Mike and I have been here several times for drinks with and without Django. In addition to accepting dogs in hotel rooms, dogs are welcome in the Soho Grand lounge area, which features a full cocktail and food menu (note: New York has more dog-friendly restaurants, bars, parks and beaches). City!)

Rooms at the Soho Grand are comfortable, elegant and spacious, and most offer stunning views of midtown Manhattan. Like The James New York, the Soho Grand’s location is unmatched. The SoHo area is full of great restaurants, bars and shops and is within walking distance of TriBeCa, the West Village, Greenwich Village and Nolita. This is a great option if you want to avoid the touristy parts of New York (ie Times Square) and explore a more unique and interesting part of the city.

The Hotel on Rivington is a modern, contemporary hotel located on the Lower East Side. Located in the center of everything downtown, the hotel is within walking distance of Soho, Nolita, Little Italy, Tribeca, and the East Village. Most rooms have floor-to-ceiling windows that offer stunning 180-degree views of midtown Manhattan. Pets are welcome, but a one-time cleaning fee of $65 per reservation applies.

Crosby Street Hotel is a chic, expensive boutique hotel in Soho that accepts dogs up to 40 pounds at no extra charge. The hotel is part of the Firmdale Hotels group, a London-based company with 10 hotels and 8 bars and restaurants in London and New York. The hotel definitely has an English feel thanks to its British roots. Modern and quirky decor adorns the public areas and guest rooms, and the hotel is known for its popular (and expensive) afternoon tea. Crosby Street Hotel has a great location. The hotel is located on a quiet cobblestone street in Soho, just one block from Broadway, a very popular shopping street in Soho that includes Bloomingdale’s and other luxury stores.

The Refinery Hotel is a central, elegant and popular hotel located in the heart of Manhattan’s Garment District. The hotel is an “innovative interpretation of the Colony Arcade, a former prohibition-era hat factory and tea house.” Guests love the hotel’s high-ceilinged, loft-style rooms, and New Yorkers (myself included) frequent the hotel’s Refinery Rooftop Bar, which overlooks downtown in a modern minimalist setting. Dogs and cats under 40 pounds are welcome at no extra charge. However, Refinery Hotel requires a $200 credit card deposit upon check-in to cover unexpected accidents or damage with pets.

The Ace Hotel is a centrally located, retro-inspired and “modern” hotel in the NoMad neighborhood of Manhattan. Dogs up to 25 pounds are welcome for an additional $25 per night. The hotel is home to the popular fine dining restaurant The Breslin (sadly stripped of its Michelin star in 2019), Ace Bar and Stumptown Coffee. The rooms are clean and not too expensive compared to other hotels on your list.

The Ace Hotel seems to be trying to be modern, as many guests have noted – some rooms are “double-decker” style, and the loud music in the lobby bar often carries over to the guest rooms on the lower floors. Many reviews suggest wearing earplugs… Overall, the Ace Hotel is a great choice if you want to stay in midtown Manhattan, don’t mind a little noise on the weekend, and need to stay.
