Less than 100 miles from Chicago, Starved Rock boasts 18 canyons, colorful sandstone cliffs, fun local breweries and factories with dog-friendly areas, and a rich cultural history. He is the best photographer who will put you on top of the tracks for those who feel they deserve it.
From local shops to beautiful parks and trails, there are plenty of Amish-friendly things to do in Northeast Indiana. Check out the Shipshewana Marketplace where lion cubs are welcome to shop at the Midwest’s largest marketplace right next to you. Just a warning: after a weekend of learning the Amish way of life, it’s not easy to get back into the hustle and bustle of the city.
Wisconsin is the perfect place to take lots of “cheesy” photos of your dog! Most restaurants allow dogs on their patios, and many also offer charming bed and breakfasts. Children often visit the townspeople here as people, so you can rest and recover. If you’re feeling a little more R&R and more outdoorsy, head to Big Foot Beach State Park near Lake Geneva.
Dolls are here for beer and there’s no better place than Milwaukee. A super friendly pet, you’ll have a hard time convincing Fido to come back to Chicago with you. Dexter’s epic 2019 road trip has officially begun! January and February are full of trips to dog-friendly destinations, but Cambridge, Ohio was our first dog-friendly weekend. Dog walks are always more fun than friends, so I invited Dexter’s BFF Levi and his mom Chris to join us.
A Guide To Pet-friendly Vacations In Every State
Cambridge, Ohio is located in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains in southern Ohio in Guernsey County. With a population of around 13,000, this small town would be the perfect dog-friendly place to explore.
Our first stop was lunch at McKenna Market in downtown Cambridge. This dog friendly restaurant offered outdoor seating and while the sun was shining we stayed warm and dry, even in March! This family market is owned by the McKenna family who have been in the deli and market business since the 1970s with waitresses and salads, a great experience for us.
The menu was extensive and offered a variety of dishes to suit everyone’s taste. Chris ordered the Shrimp Basket and then the Fiesta Chicken Salad. They welcomed us with hot coffee for us and the dogs, fresh water and dog treats.

While we were drinking coffee, people were coming up to us, talking and chasing their dogs. It was a great success and everyone was so kind and sociable. At McKenna’s door people grumbled as we ate; They have a commercial jump. When our food arrived the first thing I realized was why. Amazing food!
Dog Friendly Fall Getaways In The Northeast
When I do eat, I really try to order food that isn’t my usual food, and I usually like it. The Fiesta salad was the bomb! Fresh, happy and full of flavor. My taste buds and stomach are very happy. Chris’s shrimp and fries looked hot and inviting. He said it was cooked to perfection.
After lunch I sat outside the market in McKenna. It was filled with tons of snacks, fruit, sweets, eating cheese, meats, local artisans and food, fresh coffee beans, lemonade, wine and more. He ordered his two famous minions to go to dinner with a bag of freshly ground coffee.
We thought it would be fun to drive around the city looking for interesting and beautiful sculptures, paintings and local landmarks. I was not disappointed. Cambridge was the home of former astronaut and US senator John Glenn. Although we weren’t able to visit the John and Annie Glenn Dog Museum, we did get a historical record of Ohio.
Another important environmentalist was William Boyd. William Boyd rose to fame as rider Hopalong Cassidy, hitting the big screen in the 1930s and 1940s and on television in the 1950s. Cambridge has the Hopalong Cassidy Trail, which is a collection of monuments displayed at various locations in historic Downtown Cambridge. It was fun to get a few shows

Our tummies were craving something sweet, so we headed to Kennedy’s Bakery. Kennedy’s Bakery has been serving Cambridge since 1925. Family members have been baking for over 80 years. A bakery seemed like the perfect place to pick up a pastry.
When I entered, I was greeted by a smile and the pleasant smell of baked goods. There were so many delicious things to choose from! I was surrounded by fresh cookies, breads, cakes, cookies, brownies, donuts, pastries, sweets and more.
One of Patty’s owners gave me a behind-the-scenes tour. I was shocked at how big the bakery was. They have ovens and dishes that they have been using since the beginning of their existence. All the love and effort of a family should really be enjoyed in bread and community. It was used beautifully.
Before leaving I ordered a super muffin, a fresh donut and some of their best selling tea biscuits. After ten years of digging into a muffin, it’s clear that this muffin is made with love and fresh ingredients. The tea cake was so beautiful that I almost didn’t want to eat it. But I’m glad I did; They were moist, with such sweetness.
