High winds and temperatures in the 70s on Friday afternoon did not make for ideal conditions for people to hit the beach. That didn’t stop about 30 people and a dozen dogs from enjoying the area’s official dog-friendly beach.

Rickards was there with his wife, Judy, daughter, Brielle, and friends, Kenny Chunga and Nancy Pritts, along with Nuggets, a corgi, Riley, a beagle mix, and Sniffer, a Shih Tzu.
“It’s great to have the owner come and bring the dogs with them,” Rickards said, adding that the dogs are part of the family.
Officially known as Malibu Beach, the roughly one-mile stretch of wildlife management area managed by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Conservation is complicated by other features.
It is located on the edge of Egg Harbour, but most customers come from the Downbeach area of Ocean City, Somers Point and Absecon Island, including Longport, Margate and Ventnor.
