Rich in history and home to Abraham Lincoln’s childhood home, Lincoln State Park has more than 10 hiking trails, rolling hills, and two lakes. Dogs will enjoy exploring this park with you. You can see the Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial, a pioneer farm, the site of Lincoln’s home, the grave of Abraham Lincoln’s mother, and the historic Twelve Stone Trail. Want to stay all day? You can camp in this state park! Great for one night.

Your dog will enjoy accompanying you on the many covered bridges in this area of Iowa. Madison County is the covered bridge capital of Iowa. This district has the biggest bridge in one place! When I think of the place that surprised me the most after traveling with pets for over six years, it’s feet under the chalk pyramids in Kansas. Not many travelers know about this place, but now the secret has been revealed! Monument Rocks in western Gove County, Kansas. It is a series of large chalk monoliths known as the Chalk Pyramids. Dogs are allowed on a leash and you will feel like you are in another world. This is truly a once in a lifetime experience.

We’re from Florida, we love being at the beach! But after visiting Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore and Brickle and Digby, I now understand lake life! Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore offers miles of sandy beaches and bluffs towering over Lake Michigan. As with many places, there are beaches where dogs are not allowed, so ask the friendly staff at the park, get a map, or search online. We found there was more room for Brickle and Digby on this beautiful lakeside than we expected. However, please note that dogs are not allowed to climb the dunes for safety reasons.
Your dog will feel as tall as Paul Bunyan when you take him to Bemidji, Minnesota! This was a great stop on our travels. Meet the giant statues of Paul Bunyan and Babe The Blue Ox for a great photo opportunity. This roadside attraction has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1988. Built in 1937, Paul Bunyan and the Blue Ox Babe stands on the shores of Lake Bemidji near the Visitor Information Center. To make the dough, mix all the ingredients and leave it in a warm place for an hour. Remove the dough and spread it on an oiled, cast iron or deep pizza pan. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees and bake for 15 minutes, then remove from the oven. Place the cheese and toppings on top of the pasta and pour over the tomato sauce mixture. Place back in the oven and bake for another 20 minutes before serving to your dog.
