Dog Friendly Beaches On The East Coast – In this series, we’ve rounded up the best beaches in the country to let your dog loose during the fall season. This week we’re heading to the East Coast to bring you the Mid and South Atlantic.
Summer beach days may be over for you, but October is the perfect time for your dog to enjoy the beach. A cooler climate is best for dogs that bake in hot sand or can get dehydrated from the lack of shade in the summer. Many beaches that are normally closed to dogs during peak season are now dog-friendly, with some allowing dogs to run loose. Dog Friendly Beaches On The East Coast
Known as Party Beach in the summer, in the off season it becomes more relaxed and the dogs run free. Dogs welcome all day between 9/16-5/14. You will need to obtain a Dewey Dog License from City Hall. They offer 3 day, 8 day and lifetime licenses. A kiosk outside the Town Hall is available 24X7 and sells 3 & 8 day licences. The beach is a mile long and has toilet facilities for you.
Dog-friendly Beaches On The Jurassic Coast — A Considered Life
Often cited as one of the best beaches in the Hamptons, the main beach allows dogs to be walked from October 1 through the second Saturday in May. If your dog is within 300 feet of the road, you need to avoid accidents and injuries. East Hampton has five or more beaches where your dog can roam free while on vacation.
There aren’t many dog-friendly beaches along the Jersey Shore. Many do not allow dogs in the summer and only a few allow dogs in the fall. However, Asbury Park has two off-season options. Bradley Beach is south of Asbury Park and dogs are allowed from 9/16-4/20. It’s quieter than the beach near Asbury, but it’s clean and beautiful, and parking is cheap. 8th Avenue Dog Beach is one of the NJ beaches that allows dogs in the summer, but only from 6 to 8:30 p.m. As of 10/1, they must be released anytime they are tied up and on the beach. People die and you and your energy can have incredible social distance.
St. Petersburg Island. Simons is part of a group of barrier islands off the coast of Georgia. St. Simons has many dog-friendly beaches in the south, and most beaches allow dogs in the summer. Between Labor Day and Memorial Day, there are several beaches that allow dogs to roam in and out throughout the day, including East Beach and Massengale Park.
Dogs are welcome at the 1,136-acre Fort De Soto Park, which features grassy and wooded trails for walking. The beach was named “Best Beach” by TripAdvisor in 2009. There are 2 fenced beach areas for dogs to play nearby. There are showers for dogs to hose down after a fun day at the park. Tote bags are also provided.
Dog Friendly Beaches In South Devon
As part of the Northern Barrier Islands, Topsail Island has a town and beach called Topsail Beach, and starting October 1 dogs can roam freely along the 26-mile beach. Look out for turtles as there are many hatches along the coast. Topsail Beach, the town itself has less than 500 residents and many shops within walking distance.

There are dog friendly beaches along the Atlantic border. I’ll spill the tea and tell you that Rehoboth Beach on the Delaware Bay is one of the best dog-friendly places on the East Coast.
The Guide To Virginia’s Dog-friendly Beaches
If you’re in the southern tip of New Jersey, the Cape May Loos Ferry will take you to this beautiful beach town, and since dogs are free, Rehoboth Beach is an easy drive!
If you visit before May 1st, dogs are allowed on the beaches. There are some restrictions during the summer months, but dogs can enjoy Dewey Beach between 9:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.
