Where do you go for a quiet, dog-friendly beach? We recommend the Florida Panhandle. In general, the coast from Mexico Beach to St. Mark known as “Côte d’Adeno”.

In this relatively quiet and undeveloped area of the Florida Panhandle, you’ll find a laid-back atmosphere, friendly locals, beautiful white beaches, Caribbean blue waters, and plenty of places to splash in the waves. You!
Begin your journey by getting a lay of the land at the visitor center in Port St. Joe The staff is also ready to help. But they were so happy to see our dogs and invited them right away!
The city of Port St. Joe is not very big and local attractions can be visited in a few hours. We started on the Baywalk and walked from Frank Pate Park to Marina St. Joseph. The trail takes you near the historic Cape San Blas Lighthouse, built 130 years ago and relocated here in 2014.
One thing you won’t find in Port St. Joe is a group of hotels that line the beach. There are a few pet-friendly hotel options, but most people choose a vacation home for their stay.

Nine miles south of downtown Port St. Joe, Salinas Park is the best place to walk the dog on the beach. Very quiet, with soft sand and a light breeze – everything a dog-friendly beach in the Florida Panhandle needs.
Dogs and pets are welcome on the beach all day, every day. Horses are also allowed on the beach here. There were several vans selling cars in the parking lot.
Continuing west from Salinas Park, Cape San Blas juts out into the Gulf of Mexico. A portion of this narrow land was occupied by T.H. Stone Memorial State Park St. Joseph Peninsula.
The park has a pet-friendly campground and allows pets on leashes in picnic areas and nature trails. Surrounded by water on three sides, it is a great place to stroll and enjoy lunch.

Florida State Parks do not allow pets on the beach. But read on – there are plenty of public beaches, and plenty more to see!
Florida State Park Pet Policy Pets are allowed in designated areas at most Florida state parks. These include, but are not limited to, Ellie Schiller Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park and Weeki Wachee Springs State Park. Pets must be kept on a leash no longer than 6 feet and be well behaved at all times. Pet owners must collect and dispose of pet waste properly. Pets are not allowed on beaches, playgrounds, swimming areas, cabins, park buildings and shopping areas. The 28-mile barrier island of St. George is divided into three parts. St. George Island State Park preserves nine miles to the east. The central area has access to public beaches, residential areas, restaurants, shops and other businesses. West End is a private gated community with its own airport and some of the most expensive real estate in the Gulf of Mexico.
Our first stop was at the state park and we found the campgrounds and trails to be pet friendly, but the beach was not. Still, happy with the variety, our dog thoroughly enjoyed the 2.5 mile Gap Point Trail through the pine forest. (Parking is at the campground and the trail is to the left of the playground.)

Port St. Joe, the first residence here is a vacation home. Even cent. The George Inn has a pet-friendly room, and there are several hotels in Apalachicola, just 12 miles away.
Of all the Florida Panhandle beaches we visited, Alligator Point is the quietest and quietest. The nearest grocery store is about 30 miles away, but eight miles of nearly deserted beach – who needs food?!
Leashed dogs are welcome here every day, year round! And it’s a great place to walk around with the huge shells scattered on the beach.

If you are in or near the area, avoid those expensive clinics and go to an animal groomer instead of paying an arm and a leg. I have been traveling everywhere with my senior dog for almost 15 years and have found this place to be the best care he has ever received.
