20 Of The Uk’s Best Dog-friendly Beaches, From A Bay In Margate To A Quiet Stretch Of Sand In Cornwall

This secluded bay with two bays is only 7 minutes drive and is located between Lough and Polperro. Located on the Heritage Coast, Talland Bay is largely unspoiled and dog-friendly all year round. The bay consists of two pebbly beaches, both of which are mainly coarse sand protected by low cliffs covered with grass and stones. There is plenty of sand to run at low tide and good space to cast your rods, as well as rock pools to explore. Short ramps provide easy access to both beaches with paid parking on the main beach next to the cafe. There is also a smaller, less used east beach car park which is free to use.

Quiet, south-east facing Hannafor Beach on the outskirts of Looe. Compared to the main Looe beach it is very accessible and quiet, very popular with the dog walking community. The beach is mostly pebbles and stones, and low tide reveals a treasure trove of rock pools for swimming and beautiful views of St. Louis Island. George, a boatable reserve. The main parking lot is located on Looe Road for a pleasant walk on the beach, but there is also parking on the beach road, providing easy access to the sand.

A little west of Lue is Lantivet Bay, a 20 minute drive from our cabins. This bay is part of a contiguous group of three: Lantic, Lantivet and Lansallos. This trio is maintained by the National Fund. Steep cliffs, sandy beaches and shallow waters are complemented by the ever-changing palette of the sky throughout the year: wildflowers adorn the clifftops in spring, and the summer sun turns pink-red in autumn. Lantivet Bay itself is a small cove, only accessible at low tide, making it a beautiful hidden gem of a beach for walking and contemplation. The Lantivet Bay Circular Walk also offers a scenic 3 mile walk that will give you many unforgettable memories.

Dog-friendly Beaches In Cornwall

Heading to the north coast of Cornwall, you’ll find the wide, sweeping sands of Watergate Bay. Protected by high green cliffs on the coast, the bay has two kilometers of pure golden sand. There are two car parks where you can grab a hot drink before walking your dog. If you fancy a longer walk, you can walk south along the coast path which takes around 45 minutes to Newquay. This walk will get your heart rate up and take you through hills and valleys, taking in the beauty of the northern cliffs and views of the Atlantic Sea.

Between Treyarnon Point to the south and Tretias Island to the north lies the pristine sandy beach of Treyarnon Bay. The area is largely non-commercial and dogs are allowed year-round. Sand dunes and low cliffs form the backdrop to the bay, a natural pool with shallow waters, rock pools and plenty of water play opportunities for pets and children. It is also one of the best family beaches in Padstow and has a lifeguard from May to September. The landscape surrounding the bay and the sands themselves offer many walking paths, with level access from the car park to the beach.

Fistral Beach is an hour’s drive to Newquay. Facing west and with fantastic foamy waves, the beach is one of the best surfing destinations in the world. The beach itself is long and sandy, protected by high cliffs and grassy dunes – a great playground for the whole family. There are many cafes and attractions, as well as one of Rick Stein’s restaurants. This beach is simply beautiful and the perfect place to spend the day together.

A beautiful beach that echoes the Arthurian legend: Geneva. The beach is approximately 1 hour 40 minutes from Lowe, heading towards Penzance and the west coast of Cornwall. The area is full of natural beauty surrounded by grassy cliffs offering stunning views of the Isles of Scilly. The walk down from the car park is a bit steep and it’s a peaceful place to run your dog along the 150m of easy sand. At low tide, it also connects to Sennen beach in the south. The strong Atlantic waves that wash into the bay offer excellent surfing opportunities for experienced surfers, and dogs are welcome year-round with a lifeguard from May to September.

A Dog Friendly Day In Looe, Cornwall

Note that the furthest hike is Mullion Cove, which takes almost 2 hours from Lou and is 5 miles from Lizard Point. Owned by the National Trust, the small sandy beach inside Victoria Harbor opens at low tide. When the sand is hidden beneath the waves, one can enjoy the cliffs covered with abundant flora that offer a view of a series of small offshore islands formed by volcanic activity in the harbor. The harbor was built in the 1890s to protect ships from Atlantic currents and is a historic and charming area to stroll and enjoy together on the sand, along the cliffs or within the harbour.
