Group holidays are a popular option for families and groups of friends, whether it’s a long distance, a weekend city break or some time at the beach.
Best Dog Friendly Resorts Uk
But there’s often one important participant that can be overlooked while you’re on the go: the four-legged friends in your life. However, there’s no need to leave your dog with a friend or in the bathroom when planning your next holiday in the UK. They can accompany you on walks, bike rides, city tours and even boat trips to make your vacation fun and memorable without leaving them at home.
12 Best Dog Friendly Beaches In Isle Of Wight
There are plenty of dog-friendly places and pet-friendly accommodation across the UK, from seaside hotels to secluded log cabins and cottages in the Cotswolds. Here’s a selection of the best – just remember to pack deliciously and head on over.
One of Britain’s most beautiful landscapes, the Lake District is an outdoor haven and offers dogs (and their owners) hundreds of opportunities for short walks, long walks and challenging hikes. Most of the routes between the villages are easy to walk and pets are unlikely to get frustrated during their visit.
Located near the market town of Keswick, Mire House Farm has a series of shepherd’s huts and stunning views overlooking the North Branch Hills. The Little Man is one of the few dog-friendly accommodation options, with a small enclosed garden and dozens of acres of grassy areas perfect for a walk or a quick run outside. The nearby village of Threlkeld also has some local pubs.
With a private hot tub, intricate wood interior and outdoor seating, this cozy cabin is the perfect choice for couples to relax with our furry friend.
Best Dog-friendly Hotels In The Lake District
Although Cornwall’s Fistral Beach is known as a surfer’s paradise, on calm days this 750m stretch of golden sand is a dog’s paradise on earth, with plenty of room to run. Newquay has dog-friendly pubs, bars and restaurants, and furry friends can also enjoy activities such as a steam train ride in the Lappa Valley or fishing.
The Esplanade Hotel overlooks the Fistral, offering guests a base with stunning views of the Atlantic. Dogs are very welcome here, with dog beds and toys provided, and even a special dog-friendly tapas menu available, including meals such as fish and chips or a roast dinner.
With spacious rooms, a spa and pool, and easy access to the beach, this Cornish hotel can accommodate the whole family. With a special focus on “making memories”, surf lessons and similar family activities are offered.

Dog Friendly Holidays Near Birmingham
The Cotswolds have all the trails and spectacular views of the Lake District, but even more attractive. Here, rolling hills and acres of rolling green fields of honey-coloured houses offer plenty of walking opportunities, including quiet riverside walks in towns like Bibury and Bourton-on-the-Water.
Snowshill Manor Farmhouse, part of a larger estate, is a National Trust property in the village of Snowshill (near Broadway). It’s a “real walker’s holiday” with plenty of dog-friendly trails, such as part of the 102-mile Cotswold Way, although visitors can also visit Stretford-upon-Avon or Chipping Campden. The house has a cozy modern interior and includes a wood burning stove, where guests can warm themselves; there is enough space for two dogs, which means that large groups can rent this particular house.
Brighton is one of the most dog-friendly cities in the UK. The city has many walking paths, its beaches, parks such as the Pavilion Gardens and the nearby South Downs, but Brighton is also a haven for dogs, including many pubs and restaurants.
You can take your pup along the coast on Volk’s Electric Railway or attend one of the town’s dog-focused events, such as the Dogtember events at Saltdean Lido (where dogs and owners meet for four weekend sessions from September 9 and October 1 to swim).

The Grand Brighton Hotel is one of the most dog-friendly hotels in the city. Dogs can be booked into every room and receive a welcome kit including a blanket, water bowl and treats. Although pets are not allowed in the main restaurant or terrace, they can join you by the fireplace for dinner at the Victoria Hotel Lounge Bar.
Yorkshire is another county perfect for a family dog holiday, with unspoiled countryside and coastal towns offering owners a variety of ways to fill their day. Whitby is one such town, on the coast, but only a few miles from the border of the North York Moors National Park, so there is a choice between country walking or running on the sand and beach.
The Egton Estate is set on the moors and encompasses 6,000 acres of unspoiled nature. With acres of moorland and miles of river running through the area, it’s a great place to take your (well-behaved) pooch to play with the owner’s rescue dogs (and a selection of organics).
Your four-legged friend can take part in a fishing or shooting trip, and part of the coast-to-coast walking route passes through Egton. For dinner you can enjoy a barbecue or walk to the Horseshoe pub.
10 Best Dog-friendly Staycation Destinations
The Ayrshire countryside is acres of rolling green hills and dense forests surrounding small villages, and Ayr is Scotland’s famous seaside resort perfect for a day trip (promenades and beach excursions are promised).
But if you really want to get into the wild with your dog, stay at Mount Freedom Lodges. Nestled amongst the cliffs on the Carrick coast, these three cottages offer a peaceful retreat with stunning water views towards the Isle of Arran. Dogs will love running on the nearby beaches or in the woods, and can stay with you as you enjoy a meal at the nearby pub, The Anchorage, in the village of Dunure. When it’s time to settle down, they’ll appreciate the fireplace just like you (though they won’t appreciate the hot tub or the views).

Dogs don’t get enough credit. They lift us up emotionally and make us smile when we feel we have very little to smile about. Now is the time to give back to our dogs, and what better way to do that than on vacation. And there are plenty of packages to choose from: Britain is now officially recognized as a dog-mad country, a third of households have dogs as pets, and hotels are so used that we don’t want to leave without them. Whether it’s a luxury dog-friendly hotel by the sea with mutts, or a crazy country cube with four-legged guest rooms, you can take your dog almost anywhere these days, as long as you don’t forget to share sausages for breakfast. Here are the best dog-friendly hotels in the UK.
