Montebello Hotel Canada

We stayed at the dog-friendly Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac. This hotel is located high, overlooking the river St. Lawrence and it looks like a castle in the sky. A five-star luxury hotel, it is the most photographed hotel in the world! The hotel accepts up to two pets of any size for an additional fee of USD 50 per night.

The interior of the hotel was completely festively decorated, and its halls were decorated with lavishly decorated Christmas trees. It didn’t take us long to settle in and we were so surprised that Gatsby was patiently waiting in line with us even after a long journey. The hotel staff made sure Gatsby was well taken care of. He doesn’t eat semolina, so we asked the hotel to make him salmon and grilled meat. The staff even asked Gatsby if his salmon was cooked to the right temperature!

The best thing about Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac is that they offer dog sitting services. We booked a babysitter to come when Danny and I went out to dinner and when we went dog sledding. They charged $26 per hour (CAD) with a 3 hour minimum for one person to come to our room to watch Gatsby. You can instruct the babysitter to stay alone in the room or the babysitter to take your dog for a walk and play in the snow park right outside the hotel.

Gatsby and I walked along Dufferin Terrace, the terrace that surrounds the Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac. This elevated area offers panoramic views of Old Quebec and the St. Lawrence River. Here is a huge slide where people line up at the top of the slide (270 feet tall) to slide down the hill with a slide that goes up to 60 mph to the bottom! Gatsby stayed and enjoyed watching people go down the slide!

The German Christmas market is open from November 22nd to December 23rd and we managed to catch the last day of the holiday market. We walked around the market and found unique and beautiful handmade items made in Quebec and foods like Nuremberg gingerbread, German Christmas sweets and other German staples like bravura, pretzels, wine and more.

The next place we visited was the QuartierPetit Champlain. This location is a vacation spot and Instagram worthy! The narrow cobbled streets here are filled with lights and festive decorations. I loved visiting the shops and some of them even let Gatsby join me.

Place Royaleis is just steps from the Petit Champlain district and where we visited Notre-Dame-des-Victoires, the oldest Roman Catholic church in North America.

Resorts In Quebec City! Use Cozycozy!

Unfortunately we were unable to dine at any restaurants in the area as there was no outdoor seating. Here, restaurants move outside in the warmer months and many people dine with their dogs. The only place that offered outdoor seating was Pub des Borgiain the Winter. Although it was cold, we still sat outside because Gatsby was not allowed in the pub. I had a glass of wine and Danny enjoyed a warm bowl of French onion soup.

At the hotel, Danny made reservations for a romantic dinner at Bistro Le Sam & Bar Atrium. This restaurant had an amazing view of St. Lawrence We ordered duck wings with maple syrup and Atlantic salmon tartare as an appetizer. For mains, I had buttermilk fried Cornish chicken and Danny had Braised Legs of Lamb. Of course we drank a lot of wine and ended up sharing a dark chocolate cake.

We arranged for the pet sitter to come see Gatsby while Danny and I went dog sledding on the Expedition Me Loup! From the hotel we had to drive to Saint-Jean-de-l’Ile-d’Orleans which is about 20 minutes away. If you have not driven here, the hotel may be able to arrange transport for you. I have wanted to try dog sledding for so long! When we arrived you could feel the energy of these dogs as they were full of excitement and enthusiasm!

The session started with safety instruction and riding techniques and then we were off to the woods! I sat in the sled while Danny stood behind me to steer the sled. The adventure continued
