Best Dog Friendly Attractions Uk – Not all of these attractions allow dogs in all enclosed areas, but all allow dogs in some enclosed/covered areas.

I will provide as much information as I can under each heading (last checked February 2023) but please refer to each attraction’s website for the latest information. This post is written with reference to pet dogs, not service dogs.

Dog-friendly Lake District

Berwick Museum and Art Gallery is open from April – late autumn and dogs are welcome throughout. It is a wonderful museum with a variety of exhibits. My favorite part is the medieval Berwick part upstairs where you can walk around a dragon with your dog and there are fun mirrors too.

Barter Books in Alnwick is one of the largest second-hand shops in the world. It is very charming with unique features and nods to its past as a train station.

There is a children’s corner and don’t forget to look up to see the mini trains passing over the bookshelves. Dogs are welcome in the bookstore (chairs are also available) and in the dog cafe area. Check out this video where we share our visit to Barter Books with Fozzie.

A Dog-friendly Travel Guide To Birmingham — A Considered Life

Hexham Old Gaol is located in the heart of Hexham town center and is dog friendly throughout. It is open from April to the end of autumn. The museum is the oldest surviving prison built and shares what life was like for prisoners in the 1300s with interactive exhibits that include action and dungeon travel.

Warworth Castle is one of the places to visit with Fozzie and Ollie. It’s not big, so it’s never too busy, but there’s enough to explore and make it worth a visit. Warworth itself is super dog friendly and the castle often hosts special events.

10 Top Rated Dog-friendly Attractions And Days Out In Cheshire

Dogs can travel for free on Britain’s oldest railway and are welcome on non-special days. Tanfield requires that dogs be kept on leads and in seats. It’s a nice walk to try and there are nice walks around Causey Arch.

Aln Valley Railway The Aln Valley Railway runs steam, pacer and diesel trains into Alnwick and is a great place to enjoy a family day out with your dog (especially when combined with a trip to Barter Books). You can read our full visit guide here.

One dog per adult is allowed to travel on the Alln Valley Railway up to a maximum of 10 dogs per carriage and visitors must keep dogs on the seats.

While we’re on the subject of trains, just a quick note to say that dogs used to be allowed on trains at Stevenson Railway in North Tyneside, but this is no longer the case. See here for the latest information.

Dog Friendly Garden

Ford & Etal in Northumberland is super dog friendly and many attractions allow dogs in enclosed areas such as:

Dogs are not allowed in the main museum, but they are welcome to explore the historic buildings on the grounds, and there is a covered area outside the cafe where dogs can sit with their owners (overlooking a lovely park).

Pet Friendly Holidays, Dog Friendly Breaks & More

Dogs are welcome to visit Eshot Airport and can join their owners in the dog house/café viewing area. It’s a nice relaxing area with interesting exhibits and you can watch a series of planes take off and land (weather permitting). The cafe is amazing. Read our full review here.

Did you know that dogs are welcome in most shops and cafes at Royal Quays? We have visited with Fozzie a few times and have always found it to be a super dog friendly place. Read our full visit guide here.

It’s always worth researching whether dogs are allowed in some of your favorite stores and you might be surprised. For example, dogs are welcome in some areas of John Lewis and Fenwick.

There are too many dog-friendly pubs and cafes to list here, but I’m sure you know your favourites. Something to always remember if you want to visit a place that is quick, easy and close to home.

Dog-friendly Beaches In Lincolnshire

Guide dogs are welcome in all areas of this Sunderland museum, which includes airport hangers, WWII street, War Romney and more.

The Emporium Ice Cream Parlor in Corbridge is super dog friendly. Your dogs can meet you in the indoor seating area and they also sell special ice creams and dog treats.

Dogs are not allowed in most of the gated areas and buildings at Beamish, but they are allowed in the grounds and enough of the gated areas to definitely make it a worthwhile trip. Indoor areas where dogs are usually allowed include:

Metro, bus and train I just thought it was worth adding that dogs are allowed on most public transport, including the metro. Useful if it’s raining and you don’t want to get wet but need to go somewhere.

The Best Dog-friendly Hotels In The Uk 2024

This is obvious, but when my kids were little, they wanted a free trip to the farm (aka the animals). If you need to get out of the house with young children when the weather isn’t the best, it’s always worth keeping these options in the back of your mind. Most pet stores remove all visiting dogs, and dogs are welcome in most garden centers (although check the restrictions at cafes).

Camp Eden in North Yorkshire is super dog friendly. Dogs are allowed in all exhibition stands (of which there are plenty) and in a designated area in the cafe.

This museum is a former POW camp and shares diverse and interesting exhibits on all aspects of war. Some of the show booths are dark/have flashing lights etc…but this is clearly an external sign and easy to avoid if your dog is nervous. Read our guide to visiting Camp Eden with dogs here.

Ryedale Folk Museum is quite close to Camp Eden and you can visit both on the same day. Dogs are welcome in all areas of the museum including the buildings. There is no cafe, but there are dog tea rooms and a bar in the village.

The museum celebrates the history of the area with heritage and historic buildings covering a large period of time (including the Witches’ Cave) plus a rare animal farm and a 1950s road.

Dogs are welcome to join you on a ride on the North York Moors Railway (excluding special events and food trucks). Tickets are £3 and you are asked to keep your dog in the seats. We had a wonderful trip on this train with Fozzie last summer.
