If your dog loves more than just running on the sand and swimming in the shallows, you’ve come to the right place. Cornwall is full of dog-friendly beaches that you’ll love to explore together. Many Cornish beaches have seasonal dog restrictions. However, this does not mean that your pet cannot enjoy it: it just needs to respect a certain time. Some beaches allow dogs all day and all year round. Some of our favorites are Bamaluz Beach in St Ives, Harlin Bay near Padstow and Holywell Bay near Newquay. Porthkidney in Lelant is a great place for unleaded training (beware of the waters).
From gardens to galleries, Cornwall has plenty of dog-friendly tourist attractions. Yes, you and your dog can enjoy art together at Newlyn Art Gallery and The Exchange in Penzance. However, your four-legged friend may prefer to explore the outdoor art installations at the Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens or the Lost Gardens of Heligan.
If your pet is a true sea dog, they are welcome to take part in a cruise on the waters off Padstow aboard the Jubilee Queen. However, earth pups may want to ride on the old steam train at Lappa Valley. The Wheal Martyn China Clay Museum near St Austell welcomes dogs, as does the Cornish Seal Sanctuary in Gweek. The excellent South West Coast Path gives you plenty of walking options and you can search the website for dog walks near you. Marazion to Perranuthnoe is a great coastal dog walk, with little bays en route, great for a quick paddle and a stop at the Victoria Inn (dog treats behind the bar…). Farther west, Carn Brea Chapel and Bartinny Nature Reserve are great places to walk your dog (but keep your four-legged friend on a lead).

If you enjoy woodland walks, Cardinham Woods near Bodmin has beautiful walks and a dog-friendly cafe, or explore the Llanhydrock woodland estate with your dog. Trevilor Woods, just outside Penzance, is a popular destination for local dog walkers. With its shady trees and refreshing water, it’s the perfect refuge on a hot day.
Many of our local pubs, cafes and restaurants not only welcome dogs, they make a great deal out of them. Our town of St Ives is a particularly dog-friendly place. You should always call or email in advance to check in, and some places have special spots or tables for dogs.
If you want a cozy pub with your pet, consider Rick Stein’s Cornish Arms near Padstow, the Ship Inn or Old Coastguard in Mousehole or the Mexico Inn near Penzance. The Badger Inn in Lelant is another good spot and is close to Porthkidney Beach for a post-lunch jog.
