More information about browser support Blog Guest blog by Gill Travers as she explores Dena Forest with her husband Pete and adorable Labrador Winnie of Dena, stay in a pet-friendly cabin at Forest Holidays

In November 2019, we took our 2-year-old chocolate labrador Winnie on her first real holiday. We chose Forest Holiday Inn as we knew they were dog friendly as we had stayed at their Sherwood Pines Hotel before – but as this was Winnie’s first time in an unfamiliar environment we chose a hotel closer to home Nearby: Forest of Dean.

With some light research we found several trails to try in the forest, about a 15 minute drive from the site (you enter the forest almost immediately after leaving the cabin, so you can follow any path. Same here) ! ).

Our previous forest holiday was for our honeymoon so we went to the Golden Oak Cottage but this time we wanted a cozy place but not a premium cabin so we chose the Silver Birch Cottage. The cabin still had a hot tub but no wood burning stove and extra towels for the hot tub – but the cabin was set up for 4 people so we used the spare bedroom towels.

We were able to book the holiday with a discount code in the January sale so Vinny didn’t have to pay any extra (dogs are normally £15 per dog per night). When searching for cabins on the website, make sure they are designated “Pet Friendly” as results will show cabins that are not pet-friendly. We choose to have days off during the week (Monday to Friday).

At the end of our holiday we decided to take Vinny to experience wildlife at Cotswold Safari Park – much closer than we could drive from home.

At 4pm we arrived at the cozy and cozy cabin to check in (they offer early check-in for an extra fee but we decided not to since we only needed 2 more hours at the cabin).

Once there we took Winnie to the cabin before unloading the car – she was so excited about the new atmosphere and smells that she made room to explore us!

Dog & Pet Friendly Holiday Cottages In Forest Of Dean, Uk From £13

The deck area is enclosed and divided into two parts – the upper deck has an outdoor table and chairs and a surround for the disposable BBQ, while the lower deck is enclosed like a hot tub area. The second gate staff has access to the hot tub section, but please check that it is secured properly before letting the dog explore as our section was not fully locked when I checked (crazy dog mom in action!).

The Forest Holidays team kindly left Winnie a large Bonio and some biodegradable bin bags! (She was more excited about the cookies than the bags, but we appreciated them!) Grabbed Winnie’s bed, some toys, and some treats.

Tip: You can put your trash bags in the brown bin outside the cabin, or you can take them to one of the many dog litter boxes around the site – we collected ours for a day or two before picking them up. They get thrown into the trash when we venture out.

Winnie didn’t want us in the hot tub away from her that first night, but we mixed some yogurt with canned sardines and froze it in her toy to get her settled the next night.
