Day Trips With Dogs Southern California – Palm Springs, California is located in the Coachella Valley of the Sonoran Desert, about 100 kilometers east of Los Angeles. A popular city for many years, Palm Springs is known for its natural hot springs, hotels, restaurants, golf courses, sunny weather and, of course, dog friendly.
Downtown Palm Springs is still growing, with new shops, restaurants, hotels, and neighborhoods like the North Side development like the Uptown Design District. The annual Coachella and Stagecoach concerts draw attention to the desert city, and the Palm Springs International Film Festival in January attracts big names and crowds of visitors.

Greater Palm Springs includes eight cities in addition to Palm Springs: Desert Hot Springs, Cathedral City, Rancho Mirage, Palm Desert, Indian Wells, LaQuinta, Indio, and Coachella. Tourism is the biggest contributor to the region’s economy. I recommend staying in Palm Springs and exploring other towns by car. Palm Desert has an outdoor store and can be great for Indio/Coachella photos if you attend a festival (without a dog).
Dog Friendly Beaches In California
We visited many dog friendly places and when I say Palm Springs is the most traveled city – I mean it! It’s hard to explain, but it’s just a feeling of kindness in the place that we visited with Ruby, and we hope that it is found in this comprehensive guide.
The weather in Palm Springs is undoubtedly good throughout the year, but there is a certain time – winter and spring – when it is considered the best to travel. Palm Springs feels special during the winter months from November to January, because while the rest of the country struggles with cold weather and snow, Palm Springs enjoys sunshine and 65-75 degree temperatures. .
If you are traveling to Palm Springs with your dog, I do not recommend visiting anytime after March. Your only plan is not to be in the pool the entire time during your visit. Summer temperatures are usually around 100°F and can reach 115°F with less than 10% humidity.
Being in Palm Springs and the surrounding desert areas is one of my favorite things about visiting this city. I am a big fan of mid-century modern architecture and beautiful desert, so in paradise I stay in hotels and apartments and travel around here.

If you want to stay in the heart of Palm Springs, Palm Canyon Dr. and Indian Canyon Dr. There are many hotel options that are convenient for exploring its shops and restaurants. Check out ARRIVE Palm Springs, Kimpton Rowan Palm Springs, The Colony Palms Hotel & Bungalows, and Saguaro Palm Springs.
If you are looking to rent a house, we love the kitchen and the outdoors, then go to AirBnB or VRBO and turn on the pets feature. Here are some of the apartments on my wish list. The photos below were taken during our weekend at Joshua Tree in Mesa Tavira. You can find our home tour on Instagram.
Palm Springs is always a dog-friendly city, and with 354 days of sunshine every year, there’s plenty to keep your dog entertained.
Boozehounds Palm Springs was started by three friends for one simple reason…they loved dogs and dreamed of having a place where people could bring their pups, enjoy a cocktail great or a meal, and hang out in style. The restaurant is very dog friendly for two reasons: 1) the dog menu offers new dishes that suit elite allergies and general proteins, and 2) the atrium is dog friendly, which is good for a winter visit. We love to have breakfast here and you can check out what we saw on Instagram.

4 Paws Coffee Co. Another luxury hotel in Palm Springs worth checking out. We were warmly greeted the moment we walked in the door and the restaurant was decked out in decorations and merchandise. Rue and I enjoyed cake and coffee in the cafe while drinking a cup of coffee. The purchase of the cafe supports their efforts to give back to local shelters and strengthens their mission to bring great coffee, food and communication to the community of Palm Springs.
Moorten Botanic Garden is an independent botanical garden designed to share the beauty and uniqueness of desert plant diversity with all visitors. Unique desert plants, plants and cacti come from all over the world and vary in size from small to large. The first cactarium in the world is a favorite part of the garden and allows dogs to jump on the garden.
Parking for the park is located across the street from the entrance to S Palm Canyon. Admission is $5/person and dogs are free. This small garden can be explored in less than 30 minutes with a leisurely stroll through the grounds. We spent some time here because I liked taking photos of the cacti. If you visit during the week, you should be lucky with less people.
One thing that is unique about Southern California is that every field has windmills. Palm Springs has an official park to check them, but I don’t believe they allow dogs. We chose self-study.
Easy Day Trips From Los Angeles
To see the bottom, take I-10 to Indian Canyon Drive and Garnett. If you are driving north on Indian Canyon, turn left on Garnet and go about 1/4 mile and you will see parking lots. There is very little traffic in this area, unless you are blocking the highway, you must park where you shoot.
I recommend going at sunset. The desert really looks like cotton candy at sunset, but the sun sets behind the mountains, so make sure you arrive before sunset. There is life near the turbines, but against the backdrop of the shadowy mountains and surrounding vegetation, it is not well known. You just have to accept it.
While there are restrictions on visiting Joshua Tree National Park with your best friend, there are many dog-friendly activities that allow you to experience the different landscapes of the park while hiking with your dog. Ruby and I have visited several times and put together the best Joshua Tree trails for a half day trip to the park.
This ancient village is a gem for those who love mid-century architecture. Almost all of the homes in Indian Canyon were built in the mid-century with large glass windows, large balconies and large access to pools. Because of this, there is a historic building and beautiful, unobstructed views of the mountains.

You may have seen some of these houses on Instagram with their beautifully decorated and colorful doors. The best way to enjoy these buildings is to park and walk the streets. I especially liked the houses in South Ossetia and South Camino Real.
The dog-friendly spirit really thrives in downtown Palm Springs. It is a central area full of unique shops, restaurants and art. Many people came and shared Ruby’s good behavior, and all the shop owners were immediately attracted to Ruby, willing to feed her, water her and treat her. If you follow us on social media, you know that Ruby is a bit of a stranger, but she’s quick to commit to pet offerings.
There are many things to do in the city and the highlights are Palm Canyon Drive and Indian Canyon Drive. I recommend just making a loop and moving to whatever looks good. The South Palm Canyon is a bit more adventurous and the North side is more modern with its recent revival of the Uptown Design District.
Some of the stores on my list to check out are: Ibis Women’s Boutique, Just Perfect for Palm Springs Souvenirs, Peepas, Out West Trading Co, Desire for Forever Jewelry, and Destination PSP. The PSP was expected to be the ultimate mid-century gadget.
