Finding a dog-friendly vacation rental near New York City doesn’t have to be a needle in a haystack. There are tons of dog-friendly spots near the city, whether you’re looking to escape to a beach town on the Jersey Shore, seclude yourself in a cabin in the Catskills, or live in luxury in the East Hamptons. When looking for properties, in addition to specifically listing “pet-friendly,” look for properties with yards (bonus points if the yards are fenced), high walkability ratings, and nearby dog-friendly restaurants. Many vacation homes are also close to dog-friendly hiking trails and beaches. Pro tip: Always text the host to make sure you’re not violating any pet policies, and be prepared to bring your own dog bed. Most dog-friendly rentals require that puppies stay off the furniture.

Large groups looking for a fun weekend (or week) near Atlantic City’s casinos, beaches and boardwalk can bring their dogs to this gigantic home. Located on a corner lot with unobstructed views of the surrounding area, there is plenty of room for pets, as long as they are well behaved. The owner requests that pets not be left unattended for long periods of time or disturbed by barking, which is perfectly fair. There is a fenced side yard and plenty of balcony space so your dog (and you) can breathe in the ocean air.
One mile away from this lovely home is dog-friendly East Hampton Beach. Walk there or ride the bikes provided by the super host! The private pool is not fenced, but without salt water and chlorine. The host also recommends Jack’s Stir Brew Coffee for a morning wake-up call, which is a dog-friendly spot. Plus a large grassy yard and deck with plenty of shade? Your dog will love it.
This is a family and pet friendly home in the heart of Avalon, New Jersey, a highly sought after summer vacation destination. Located just one block from the beach and within walking distance of shops and restaurants, this is a great place to hang out with your dog. You may have to head south to Stone Harbor Beach to ensure your pup can have fun in the water, but there are plenty of dog-friendly spots in town like Sundae Best Homemade Ice Cream Bar or Brady’s Hoagie Dock. The apartment itself is comfortable, with a porch, WiFi, washer/dryer, and plenty of sleeping space for a large family gathering.
Located in the Hudson Valley, this farm is a true retreat from the busy, noisy city life. The property has been recently renovated to enhance natural light and has both an outdoor and indoor fireplace. There is a back deck overlooking a small creek and a screened porch next to the pool. Basically, this space is the perfect place to switch off and relax – even the animals agree. A recent reviewer said: “My very ‘loud’ beagle was calm and sweet and enjoyed every moment of being in the house. I was shocked at how calm he felt there.

Located near Yale in a small beach community, this bungalow was completely renovated in 2021 and we are obsessed with the bright, fresh interior. Take your pup for a walk along Beach Avenue or head to one of Milford’s dog-friendly breweries. Reviewers love the area’s quiet atmosphere and many places and activities within walking distance for kids and pets.
Three hours north of the city, this modern cabin in the Catskills offers a balcony, grill, fireplace, and a fenced area so your dog can play outside and you don’t have to worry about him getting lost. A nearby trail leads to a waterfall, and the five-acre property is a peaceful haven. There is also a hammock in the yard so you can relax (if you want
For work, WiFi is available). It’s no surprise that the reviews are great. A recent guest said, “Our dogs loved the walk to the creek and the fenced area outside. Everything was so clean and updated. I would 100% book with them again!”
This cozy villa near Remsen, New York is the perfect year-round retreat. See the fall leaves, sit in the hot tub in the dead of winter, or walk across the street to the owner’s private beach in the summer. The views of the mountains and lake are breathtaking, and many hiking trails are just a few minutes’ drive away. Pet Friendly Cabins Maryland
We love the private pool with private hot tub and are big fans of the secure yard (this property lists a fenced yard as one of their amenities). Owned and managed by Hamptons Vacations, this home also uses organic cleaning and landscaping products that make the space safer for pets (and kids). Finally, East Hampton’s beaches are only a six-minute drive away and are dog-friendly.
This is the perfect Poconos cabin for anyone looking to reconnect with nature. Although rustic with a wood burning stove and a stream running through the yard, the kitchen and bathrooms are updated and modern. Outdoor campfires, nearby hiking trails, fishing opportunities and plenty of room for your dog to stretch their legs make this an ideal getaway. If you want to explore more than the Poconos, this is a great location for all things golf, shopping and adventure.

Sussex offers excellent walking in summer and autumn and skiing in winter. The city is decorated with artistic murals, so a walk through that area is a must if you are interested. The Falafel Spot was a great local place to eat (the owners were so nice!) The Bluffs Trail was our favorite hike here. We loved this town and our Airbnb so much that we stayed here again for one night on our way back to Maine!
10 Unique Pet Friendly Day Trips In Pennsylvania
Home to the highest tides in the world, internationally famous food (shellfish) and a VERY dog-friendly national park made Fundy a great stop.
Camping in the national park was easy to book, clean and cheap. There are many hiking and mountain biking trails in the park to choose from. Matthews Head and Dickson Falls were my favorite trails in the park. They are both dogs. There are also many campsites. We stayed at Camp Chignecto.
The nearby town of Alma and nearby Hopewell Rocks Provincial Park is where the high tide happens! Twice we wandered in wonder on Alma’s beaches at low tide. There are many good places to eat in the city, all with dog-friendly patios. Hopewell Rocks is worth the price of admission and must be done twice. (Your reception gives you high tide one day and low tide the next or vice versa.) It’s amazing to see it in person!
