Because of this, I wanted to share some fun places to stay and restaurants throughout the Western Cape. These are all the places I have visited or stayed.

I didn’t have my pet with me most of the time. (Also because cats are not as welcome as dogs in many places. Animal consideration often seems to be the same as dog consideration.) That said, I’ve been looking for places to start. I have also collected all the important facts and important information directly from the real estate for this post.

Note: The purpose of this article is to travel with pets mainly for cats and dogs – but you will find that some properties accept pets of all breeds and types!

Dog Friendly Travel Ideas: Iconic Tourist Attractions

Dedicated to Pets: Tom Ryan (01/07/2018 – 05/04/2024) This post was originally inspired by and is now dedicated to our beautiful, brave stray cat Tom Ryan-Stamatiou.

Tom was best at walking and petting friends; he liked to discover new places, he entertained me; it quietly destroyed my turnkey karaoke on the road and 4-hour car rides without complaint; and he walked happily with me from the age of four months until a few months before his death. On some of our trips, Tom, my precious heart cat, also suffered from epilepsy or asthma (and later a devastating diagnosis of HCM and CHF, which eventually took his precious life), so despite all these problems we still manage to travel safely together. like a family. Remember: it’s still best to have your pet approved for a walk by a vet, especially if they have chronic health issues or stress, as Tomcat did. In Tom’s memory, you can read more about his adventurous spirit of travel here on We Love Pets SA.

In the post I also share some sound but personally tried and tested travel friendly tips based on my own experience traveling with my cat.

These are the tips and tricks I’ve found to be the best for reducing stress and upset (when traveling) while keeping your pet safe. Because after four years of commuting (as we travel from Cape Town to Montagu and back) and many hours on the road together – my cat Tom and I are old at this travel.

This is not a one-size-fits-all list, and yes, you know your pets’ needs and personalities best – but most of them are highly recommended as tips for traveling with pets.

Lake Tahoe Dog-friendly Activities| Tahoe Signature Properties

1) Make sure all photos of your pet are up to date. Especially for viruses like rabies. 2) Keep a digital copy of your pet’s ID in your phone in case of an emergency. Also, if you are visiting an unfamiliar area/city/province, consult the nearest veterinarian. 3) Remember to package all of your pet’s medications and keep them refrigerated. If they are on permanent medication, order them and take them a week or two before you go. 4) To provide extra stimulation and familiarization, especially when traveling or living in a new place, pack toys, treats, or blankets for your favorite pet.

5) Make sure your pet has been recently treated for ticks and fleas. This is especially important during tick season when you or your pet can easily pick up ticks in tall grass, fields and fynbos. I personally use the Bravecto Spot-on treatment for Tom as it provides the kit and flea protection for 3 months. However, talk to your vet about the best and safest product for your pet. When you go or walk with your pet, always check yourself and your pet afterwards for ticks. 6) Make sure your pet has had a wormer in the last 3 months. It’s just good practice in general, but it’s also important when taking them abroad or to a new location.

7) Invest in sturdy travel bowls like Rogz stainless steel bowls that hold up well, dry easily, clean and wash easily. 8) Most places do not allow pets on the furniture, so wrap up in bedding and blankets if necessary. Again, even if the place appeals to you
