If you plan to bring your pet(s), you must let us know when making your reservation. We do not limit the number of pets (although some guest rooms are smaller than others) and we do not prohibit pet ownership. We charge $25.00 to bring a pet, per pet, per day.
*We will provide you with bed sheets and furniture, food mats and water, a list of places you can bring your pet in the area and pet kennels and daycare. We provide a place to clean your pet, litter box, mutt mitts and litter box. Most importantly, we provide lots of attention, care and photos for your pets.
*You are responsible for the behavior of your pet(s) and will be responsible for any damage or excess carpet dirt, sand, hair and odors in the living room, kitchen or outdoors that your pet may cause. We appreciate a thorough wipe down between the time they enjoy the beach and re-enter the guest rooms. Hoses, shampoo and towels are available on the deck next to the main parking lot) We ask that you do not allow your pet to bathe or shower.

Carmel-by-the-Sea, a beautiful coastal town on the California coast, is one of the most dog-friendly places in the state and one of California’s top winter destinations. If you’re wondering where to take your nervous toddler to avoid the July 4th fireworks, head to Carmel.
It takes about 2-3 hours to reach Carmel from San Francisco and is one of the best trips to start from San Francisco. I recommend driving along Highway 1 / Cabrillo Highway to enjoy the best views between San Francisco and Carmel.

It’s also your gateway to Big Sur, one of the most scenic drives you can take (dog or no dog) on California’s Highway 1 (Pacific Coast Highway) as well as the famous 17 miles between Carmel and Monterey. No wonder, this Northern California beach town is a favorite Northern California vacation spot!
This beautiful town also boasts many dog-friendly hotels, inns and B&Bs where you and your dog can stay for a fun time. However, its dog-friendly reputation means many places are booked in advance most of the year.
In addition, hotels do not have the same type of amenities (wifi, parking, swimming pool, close to the beach) and many of them have limited dog-friendly rooms. Before you book your dog-friendly hotel in Carmel, here are a few things to keep in mind:
Carmel is surrounded by the sea, all of Carmel is on the coast, bordering the Pacific Ocean as well as the Carmel Valley, further inland and to the east. Although Carmel Valley is known for its cattle and wineries, dog-friendly accommodations are more limited than Carmel by the ocean and many luxury hotels and resorts. Plus, it’s so hot here in the summer that it’s no fun for your dog!
10 Dog-friendly Hotels In Carmel For The Perfect Pet-friendly Getaway
Also, downtown Carmel (where all the action is) is near Carmel Beach, a popular dog-friendly beach in California that welcomes you with its soft sand and blue water. Many dog-friendly Carmel hotels are within a few blocks of the beach; The great weather and access to a beautiful city center with beautiful courtyards and shopping malls make Carmel by the Sea a very enjoyable place to stay with your dog.
Although Carmel is one of the best dog resorts in Northern California, unfortunately, it is one of the most expensive places to stay in California, thanks to its popularity. As a dog sanctuary, especially on the 4th of July (no fireworks are allowed in Carmel), dog parents often come to Carmel from the Bay Area and stay for the weekend.
You won’t find budget dog-friendly motel chains like Motel 6 or La Quinta in Carmel by the Sea. All the hotels in Carmel town range from budget hotels to boutiques and luxury stores – there is no real “budget” like Motel 6.
I’ve listed some affordable accommodations to stay with your dog in Carmel, but be aware that they fill up quickly (book your stay ASAP if you plan to visit). In addition, many hotels charge an additional pet fee that raises the minimum price.

If you’re visiting Carmel on a budget, your best way to find cheap dog rides in Carmel is to stay in nearby Monterey, visit in the off-season (any time except for dinner hot), etc. during the week. (Weekends year round) or covering Carmel is a day trip from San Francisco (a 2.5 hour drive). Make your plans at least 1-2 months in advance to get all or the best hotel options and prices.
Let’s face it, finding a good dog hotel in California isn’t always easy. Also, 3-4 star hotels have a higher charge per pet per night. I’m often in the same situation when I travel with Dad all over California and Airbnbs always help us out at times, like Mendocino, Lodi or Sonoma.
However, if you plan to stay in Carmel with your dog, it’s best to book a vacation rental unless you’re looking for something special, luxurious (more on that later).
