Dog Friendly Family Vacations – Ah, sleep, that’s what I live for. That and those soft chews my mom gets from the pantry when I cheat after the bath, and because I’m a good boy (which I always am, if you ask me), I lead a pretty simple life. but I like it that way. It consists of eating (my favorite), sleeping (my second favorite), and belly rubs (never enough). delighted. Get in the car to go on vacation? Won the dog lottery.
Because I’m such a good guy (read above), my family always finds pet-friendly resorts in Minnesota for their vacations and I feel like I’m taking out the trash. Whether you have a growing dog or a new kitten in your crew, regardless of your pedigree, if you want to get involved
Dog Friendly Family Vacations
1. Let’s talk about travel. When driving with your dog or cat, it’s important to be prepared. Safety should always come first. Like I said, I’m a simple guy. So when I can look out the window at the beautiful Minnesota landscape, I’m a happy guy. I’m a fan of the belt buckle myself. This is the one I have: https://vvv.chevi.com/kurgo-direct-to-seatbelt-dog-collar/dp/56751. Some dogs and cats want a little more comfort and therefore opt for something like this: https://vvvv.chevi.com/snoozer-pet-products-lookout-ii-dog/dp/140449. No matter what you choose, be sure to also install a car seat cover unless you plan to remove lint from your clothing for months. Diploma? If Max or Tiger are not free to ride in the car, you start the journey with your right paw.

2. Is your pet up to date on flea and tick prevention? Is he or she microchipped? These are the items you should check off your bucket list before you head out. Also bring medical documentation to stay with you in case of an emergency or if your pet resort requires vaccinations or medical histories. Preparing everyone for a safe and healthy adventure will make this time even more enjoyable.
3. You’ll be surprised at how many pet-friendly resorts there are in Minnesota! If you are not sure, call. There may be an additional fee, weight restrictions, or rules about the type of pets you can bring (I’m not sure if Buddy the bearded dragon is welcome), but it’s best to ask. My personal favorite is The Red Door Resort. It’s spacious, the staff is friendly and attentive, and there are plenty of sticks to find, leaves to hunt, and fresh air to breathe. And my family is always in a good mood there. There are a few rules at Red Door Resort, but mostly it’s just fun!
O Bringing a pet to your resort costs $15 per day. However, additional cleaning fees may apply if pet policies are not followed. They want you to keep pets away from the furniture. These include beds, beds, sofas and chairs. If your pet is used to lying on the furniture at home (paw facing up), you may want to bring a sheet or blanket to drape over the furniture. Otherwise an additional cleaning fee will apply. Typically it costs $50 for linens, pillows, etc. to be washed, but if a piece of furniture needs to be replaced due to damage or stains, more can be done.
O Some properties at Red Door Resort do not allow furry companions. So be sure to let them know when booking that you are bringing your best friend!

O Pets are not allowed on or near the beach, but are allowed in the marina.
O Furry friends must be kept on a leash in the field and please do not leave them unattended unless they are in their kennel. Your cleaning staff will not enter the property if the dog is barking or running loose.
4. What to pack for a Minnesota vacation: Fur children or human children, it’s always a battle. Here is a list to get you started:
· First aid kit with bandages, blunt scissors, tweezers, cloth, surgical tape, absorbent non-stick pad, alcohol wipes and Elizabethan collar (also known as cone of shame).

5. Have a plan! I usually take a break every few hours to go potty and stretch my legs for a few minutes. And of course I want to eat lunch, dinner and snacks when you do that. Flexibility is key! Maybe the weather isn’t what you expected, or maybe I sniffed more wood during the pit stop, but we’re all in this together (and I’m in the car!) and that’s all that matters.
As you head to your home away from home, I hope you feel relaxed and ready to embark on outdoor adventures and enjoy and unwind the quality family time that lies ahead for you and your loved ones. I am glad that I played a small part in ensuring that I will hopefully have not only a beautiful but also a valuable memory experience in the land of 10,000 lakes.
*yawn* I don’t know about you, but I think this calls for a nap in the Minnesota sun. Plan your family vacation now! I can’t tell you how well prepared and planned you are. I will send you an invoice for the services provided, payment will be made with belly massages and ear scratches.

Okay, as an avid traveler, I have always appreciated the convenience and affordability of all-inclusive resorts for our family. Because everything from food to activities is included in the price, an all-inclusive vacation eliminates the unpredictability of a la carte meals, activities, and hidden fees. And some of my favorites are included and even allow me to take the family pet with me on vacation.
Since I love taking our four-legged family members with me on family vacations, I’ll probably keep coming back when I find a property that also offers pet-friendly all-inclusive accommodation – as I have with many of their all-inclusive options. Pet resorts on this list. If you are also a pet owner who likes to take your furry friends with you on vacation, you have several options. Here are 10 of my favorite all-inclusive resorts that allow pets.
Located in the heart of Cabo San Lucas, Hard Rock Hotel Los Cabos is a pet-friendly property that welcomes up to two small pets (cats or dogs) weighing up to 50 pounds each as part of the resort chain’s popular Unleashed program allowed in selected rooms. For a fee of $150 per pet, you can expect amenities such as a plush dog bed and welcome amenities for your pet or pets. Additionally, certain areas of the resort are open and accessible to pets. Walking the dog on the beach is also fun.
Located about a 20-minute drive from Cabo San Lucas International Airport, the pet-friendly resort features six outdoor pools, a kids’ club, a bowling alley and an award-winning spa. Modern rooms and suites feature luxurious Egyptian cotton linens, spacious bathrooms with double sinks, and flat-screen TVs. Guest rooms for couples encourage outdoor living with lounge chairs and dining areas where you can relax with your pet.

Cabo San Lucas is known for its nightlife, but I love that it’s also a walkable city with plenty of dog-friendly spots. Take a stroll along the seafront and don’t forget to stop by the Marina Mercado where you’ll find local artisans selling handicrafts. You might want to take a morning to visit the Buccaneer Los Cabos Pirate Cruise, where you can learn about seafaring history and maybe spot some whales. I personally love the early morning snorkeling tours, where a hearty breakfast of eggs and pancakes is served on board while you enjoy the beautiful views of the Sea of Cortez.
Other Hard Rock lodging options with pet-friendly rooms and amenities include locations in Tampa, Orlando, Daytona Beach, Sioux City and Lake Tahoe.
Hyatt All Inclusive Resort Zoetri Montego Bay allows small dogs up to 22 pounds for $75. This popular spot in Jamaica offers food bowls, treats, toys and a plush bed for your dog. At press time, it is also the only pet-friendly all-inclusive resort in Jamaica. This is particularly noticeable because many of Jamaica’s most beautiful beaches are dog-friendly.
There’s a full-service luxury spa here, as well as plenty of activity options like kayaking, deep-sea fishing, and scuba diving. There are also five restaurants, many of which offer wonderful outdoor dining with your dog. I recommend having an outdoor brunch at Coiaba with your pet. One of my fondest memories at this pet-friendly all-inclusive resort was eating there
