Among the various costs associated with owning a dog, pet insurance can vary greatly depending on where you live. Knowing that you will need to factor in this cost over the course of your dog’s life will help with budgeting, but also reduce costs in the event of a major health problem or emergency. Tulsa, OK has the lowest pet insurance rates on our list, but several Texas cities also make the top 10.

The U.s. Cities And States With The Most Pet-friendly Homes

Of course, the price of pet insurance depends on the breed and age. Why is there so much money in American cities? A healthy two-year-old golden retriever insured in Albuquerque, New Mexico costs $22.83 per month, while the same dog in New York costs $62.35 per month.

The main reason why pet insurance prices vary from city to city is the different hospital costs and general cost of living in each city. As the cost of living rises, so do the costs of renting or leasing a geriatric hospital, hiring geriatric staff, supply costs, and other related costs. This makes sense, but it increases the cost of owning a dog in many American cities, and potential owners must factor in additional costs over the pet’s lifetime.
