Dog Friendly Lodging Near Eureka Springs Ar – This is the story. The story of how one night turns into two people in Eureka Springs, Arkansas; Celebrating birthdays with strangers became fun with friends; and the conversion of Joy’s Motel to Wanderoo Lodge.

Tim Freeman, owner of the newly renovated Wanderoo Lodge, was born for the job. Exactly. His elderly grandparents were the original owners of Camp Simcha, which eventually became the Joy Motel. Happiness is where Tim remembers swimming in the pool with his relatives. He grew up on the land, so it’s only natural that after years of neglect, the Eureka native would come up with a makeover and a new name.

Not that I didn’t know about this when I placed my order there. I also didn’t know that 15 years ago I lived across the street from Tim in Fayetteville, AR.

Paws” To Enjoy Eureka Springs

I booked my stay at Wandero as it is where the Fleet Eureka office is located. Ozark Mountain Ziplines is located on the property, but Henry thinks this is a terrible idea.

I contacted Floating Eureka to discuss writing for this blog. One of the owners, Rachel, suggests comparing standard and inflatable boards when paddling with your dog. good idea! I also asked if I could stay at the lodge. And so an adventure was born.

I’m sure that was the case with Tim and his friends who own the floating Eureka. They only knew each other for five years, but most of the time there were trips, beers and conversations with the right people and wonderful ideas. Throw in a little kismet—when Tim first moved back to Eureka, his excitement wasn’t for sale, but it soon came on the market—and amazing things began to happen.

Registration is at 3:00 p.m. We arrived around 4pm on a Friday afternoon as they were putting the finishing touches on the gravel bar, which opened that evening. I’m proud to say that I was the first person to order a glass of wine and I stood when they turned the “tea” switch to the top of the bar. This is an incredible work of art done by a local man, when you see his work you will call him an artist, Shaman Hill Rural Innovation and Design.

After drinking wine on the dog-friendly porch, Henry and I headed back to our room. Unbeknownst to the other guests, he followed me defensively, turning without warning. As I approached my room, I saw a cat sitting on my car. Although he looked weak, I hoped he would be okay. he was.

Jinx is the property cat and I guess she knows whose car she’s in since I had a treat. I saw Jinx a few times during our stay and I have to say she was great. He is very social and friendly and although he is not afraid of dogs, he is not inclined to challenge them like some cats. Jinx is just doing her thing. Make sure you get some food for him.

If I had known Pebble Bar would be open on Friday night, I wouldn’t have made dinner plans downtown. By the way, I promised some of my clients that I would shamelessly introduce myself to them and their well-behaved dogs – our dog’s favorite local flavor.

Wandero offers a shuttle for guests for $15 a day, and it runs until midnight, so Henry and I took advantage. After dinner we headed back to the Screaming Pebbles Bar and called it a day even though the opening night looked like a success. I don’t want any of us to be tired for our morning paddle.

Osage Creek Lodge, Eureka Springs: Room, Prices & Reviews

The king bedroom is small but spacious and comfortable, with a large window overlooking the salt water pool. There’s no artwork on the walls, but you’ll find amenities like a mini-fridge, Keurig-style coffee pot, microwave, and flat-screen TV. With a table and two chairs and one extra chair, there was enough space for a 12-year-old slow dog to have a few shots. The bathroom is lined with clean subway tiles and soft, white towels, and the king-size bed has plenty of pillows for a good night’s sleep.

Since the Pebble Bar doesn’t serve breakfast and I ate leftovers for Henry, we went in search of food after coffee. I’m told there’s a food truck down the street in the parking lot of the old high school, but fair warning…you’re going to bust your angels trying to cross the intersection. My homemade sausage breakfast sandwich was delicious, but I’m not sure if it was worth life and limb.

We were supposed to meet Rachel from Float Eureka at the office that was the Joy Motel check-in desk. Now that the big house has been renovated and the front office is inside, the supplier uses this space for his business.

We did this before we left, check out the afternoon. We inquired about keeping our room for an extra night but unfortunately it was full. But luck took its turn and when we returned from our line, the cancellation opened up a place for us. Since the house didn’t have an overcrowded room (everywhere in Eureka has one), we happily accepted Tim’s invitation to stay another night. After all, it was his birthday and the opening weekend of the new bar. How can I say no? When I complained that I didn’t have enough clothes for the second night, Dusty, the manager, threw in a free shirt! FYI this shirt is super soft and one of my favorites right now.

It was 15:00. A Saturday afternoon paddle behind us, a night ahead and a comfortable stay. It was a good time to sleep. We went to our new room, turned on the air, turned on the Cardinals game, and promptly fell asleep.

After I snoozed, I realized that I planned to eat Henry for the second night. I had to find a grocery store and this is good for traveling with a raw-fed dog. If not eaten raw, it was found in high-dollar candy that was only privately shipped from a monastery in Australia. As such, canned salmon and some green beans work well. This also gave me a chance to have some fruit and protein for breakfast. Hart Family Center is not a fancy grocery store, but it’s just down the road and meets our needs.

As Henry feeds him and I shower and sport my new Wanderoo shirt, we head over to the Pebble Bar to see what’s going on.

It was many things and it was a perfect example of everything Eureka Springs – friends, family, a former mayor, a manager who participated in impersonation concerts like Elvis, and his wife, a famous textile artist, a servant who looked like him. Hannah Montana, but dressed like Miss Switzerland with combat boots and the best red lipstick you’ve ever seen, a school teacher, a few people here and there, two dogs and Jinx watching from the front porch.

At least two birthdays in the house contributed to the mood of the night. People share cake and homemade moonshine and laughter abounds. The name has changed, but JO Y still exists.

As midnight and the final bell approached, plans to head downtown to Chelsea began to solidify. I took Henry back to our room and boarded the crowded wheel with my new friends. It continued to be interesting. Why should we stop now?

If you’re in Eureka, go to Chelsea. The music and people are versatile and overall great. Where can you find Red Dothraki and Jersey Boy together when a band called Wild Jungle Cat takes the stage? I finally had enough of the fun and headed back to Wanderroo. Although the pool was technically closed, there were a few people in the pool, but everything was quiet. Sitting next to Henry, my head hit the pillow and I quickly closed my eyes to another successful adventure.

Sunday morning brought a cool drop. Henry and I sat outside the back door of our room, sipping my coffee and watching the water droplets hit the tub, and I began to jot down a few notes.

Sunday morning we left Wanderrow and went to Oscar’s Cafe for lunch where Henry was greeted with a bowl of water and some bacon. If the gossip I overheard on the porch that morning was any indication, the people of Eureka expected big things from the new inn.

Backed by strong friends and family, as well as a town eager to see Joey resurrected, Tim used his history in hotel consulting and his love of Eureka to create a new atmosphere in the old place. I think Wanderoo will continue to grow, positioning itself as an in-town lodge that is your gateway to Ozarks adventure.

“That kid Tim’s got a good head on his shoulders,” said an old man on Oscar’s porch. “He is wise for his age, and if the people of Eureka hear him,
