The path on the slopes of this famous rock offers the opportunity for a beautiful walk with the dog. Park in one of the many car parks along Beachy Head Road (BN20 7YA), the largest of which is at the Beachy Head pub (5 minutes’ drive from The Lansdowne Hotel). If you are traveling by train, the location is just 3 stops from Western Lawn Station (2 minutes walk from The Lansdowne Hotel) at the Beachy Head Centre. From there you can walk along the cliffs to Beachy Head: either downhill, or on the steeper and more accessible Veredespad (750m circular path). On a clear day, the beautiful views from this walk stretch for miles, with particularly spectacular sunsets and sunrises. Bring binoculars to look like a seagull and look out for a variety of local waterfowl. This trail is near the edge of the cliff, so you may want to keep untrained dogs on a leash! Afterwards, have a drink at The Beachy Head, another dog-friendly bar in Eastbourne, just 1 minute’s walk from the station.

This National Trust marked walk is ideal for dog walkers, linking Birling Gap with the Seven Sisters. Start from the Crolink NT car park (BN20 0AX). From here, it’s a 36-minute walk to Birling Gap, where you and Tell Wager can explore rock pools and a shingle beach. The walk itself goes through sheep fields and cliff sides, so be sure to bring a lead to keep canine friends close where they could run wild!

Just 20 minutes further in Seaford you will find Cuckmere Haven, a corner of the valley where the River Cuckmere flows into the English Channel. There is a nice walk following the winding river which ends at a dog friendly beach below. Try parking at South Hill Barn car park (BN25 4JQ) or catch a direct bus to Chippington Lane from Memorial Roundabout (10 minutes’ walk from The Lansdowne Hotel). The trail is easy to find and is a 20-30 minute walk with amazing views all the way down. Little ones will love going for walks on the windy hills, jumping in the river and kicking balls in the sand. On hot days, water also provides a refreshing way for dogs to regulate their temperature!
