When you exit I-15 and enter the Temecula Valley, it feels like you just landed in Italy. You’ll no doubt be impressed if you’re not mesmerized by the Italian cypress trees that dot the landscape along the Rancho California Trail, which takes you past some 19 wineries.
Family-friendly Wineries In Temecula
Our first stop, Callaway Vineyard. The property sits on 20 acres of vineyards. This was one of the most aesthetically pleasing vineyards we visited. Super pet friendly! The vineyard had the feel of a larger Napa Valley with the charm of a sweet Sonoma boutique winery.
Warning: As we arrived, a large red-tailed jackal flew from our car and perched on a light pole above us. Keep this in mind when traveling with small dogs. A few holes were around looking for their basement pleasures. At night, hawks give way to owls. If you’re careful and aware of your surroundings when you go for a walk, you’ll be fine.
Amy and Emily have wine tasting in 10 different countries including Argentina, France, Portugal and the United States. In all these cases, we never had to worry about air poaching before. This is something to keep in mind as the day progresses, lest this dampen your desire to visit the wineries or detract from your experience.
After a small sip of wine and a few photos to capture the moment, we decided it was time to check into our villa at South Coast Winery Resort & Spa. Again, super pet friendly. After settling in and giving the girls a chance to take a quick nap, we decided to head to the next winery on our map: Village in Europe.
Miramonte Winery Temecula, Ca
Europa Village was a very cute and quaint property filled with gift shops and people enjoying the vineyard on the outdoor patio. Being first-timers to Temecula, we had no idea how pet-friendly the whole experience would be. This wine tasting experience was also very different from Callaway Vineyards. This area was more enclosed and not exposed to the elements of the Callaway property. As we tasted our first wine we noticed the number of dogs around us. I said that Amy and Emily should have the same experience. After a very short discussion, we grabbed a drink and headed straight to the hotel to pick them up. What they didn’t know was that they were about to immerse themselves in the Temecula wine experience. We’re headed to Bailey Winery.
Bailey Winery was less than a mile from the former vineyard, and lo and behold, it was super dog friendly! The girls were welcomed in the wine tasting room and on the grounds. In fact, Sundays are reserved for Dog Day Sundays. Be sure to visit on a Sunday and ask about their dog menu. This will be a real treat for your puppy! The wine was good and the atmosphere was great. The view from Bailey was very picturesque. We arrived before the golden hour and stayed until sunset. Great sunset photos from the property.
After leaving Bailey Vineyard, we returned to the hotel to relax, light the fireplace, order room service for dinner, and share a bottle of wine. South Coast Winery Resort and Spa is surrounded by lawns and vineyards. Our room was excellent: clean, spacious and comfortable. From a pet’s perspective, it was safe and a great place to enjoy fresh green grass. The girls there were very happy (look out for those hawks and owls).
After a day of wine tasting, we all decided to do something we rarely do: sleep in on a Sunday! Amy and Emily are delighted to see this. They both sleep well at night, especially after the car ride and all the walking the day before. One thing is certain: they are never in a hurry to get out in the morning.

Sunday was a day for lunch and exploring Old Town Temecula. The Rancho is 10 minutes from the California Wine Trail. The town looks like something out of the Wild West. There are many options for dining out; All within walking distance and pet friendly. Everywhere we went we were greeted with water bowls and dog menus for our little ones. I can’t say enough about how wonderful this city is for dogs, as friendly and welcoming as it is.

One of our favorite dog-friendly wineries in Temecula is Bailey Vineyard. Not only is the property dog-friendly, but it also has a restaurant, Carol’s. They even have a dog menu! We had lunch here and Frankie enjoyed the peanut butter fried chicken.
Well-behaved dogs are also allowed in the tasting room and can relax on the cool floor while you taste.
