Lucky Bay in the east of Esperance gets a lot of attention, but because it’s in a national park, it’s one of the few local beaches that doesn’t allow dogs. Take your dog on the Great Ocean Drive instead. It’s a 40km loop west of Esperance through some great beaches and all are dog friendly except for the western end of Twilight Beach near the live surf club shop.
Some beaches restrict off-leash dogs to certain hours, such as at West Beach Esperance, where dogs are only allowed between 5:00 AM and 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM and 8:00 PM and must remain on a lead. during the day.

Dog-friendly Places To Stop When You’re Road Tripping In Wa’s South West
Even if you’ve never been to Wave Rock, you’ve probably seen pictures of this unusual, collapsing wave-shaped rock. The rock on the edge of South West Australia is surprisingly not a national park, which means your dog can join you when you visit this amazing natural site.
Located on the outskirts of Hayden, the easiest way to stay is at the nearby RV Park, just 5 minutes from Wave Rock. Entry is free for caravan park guests, and a separate fee is charged for day hikers. Caravan parks can accommodate dogs year-round on both electric and non-electric tracks, as well as pet-friendly accommodation.
In addition to seeing the famous rock and taking lots of photos, I also recommend one of the dog-friendly trails in the area. Walk to nearby Hippo’s Yawn and explore the local salt lake.
Another dog-friendly attraction are the hills, set in the same granite, 16km north of Mulka Cave, one of the most important Aboriginal rock art sites in South West Australia.
Dog Beaches In Perth
Western Australia is known for its wine industry, with many wine regions in the country, particularly the Margaret River region, 3 hours south of Perth.
The area is perfect for a weekend away from Perth where you can explore local wineries, great food shops and famous surfing beaches. And you don’t have to leave your dog behind, as there are plenty of pet-friendly options, as well as a dog-friendly cellar door. If wine isn’t your thing, there are plenty of local breweries, most of which are dog-friendly.
However, the most popular wine region for dogs in Western Australia is around Denmark, which is part of the Great Southern Wine Region. Less than an hour west of the larger downtown Albany, we spent the day visiting wineries, shopping for local cheeses, and exploring the beautiful countryside. It’s a quieter neighborhood and there are plenty of options for dogs!
When you head to the coast of Western Australia, don’t forget to visit Shark Bay and Monkey Mia Resort with your dog. Famous for its daily feeding of wild dolphins, which has been going on for decades, you’d expect dogs to be off-limits, but we found Monkey Mia to be surprisingly dog-friendly.

If you want to spend more time in Dampier, the newly renovated waterfront area is a great place to spend an evening. Dogs are allowed on the beach on a leash and Hampton Oval also has a dog walking area.
The tropical beach town of Broome in North West Australia is particularly famous for Cable Beach, a long stretch of white sand with camel rides and beautiful sunsets, four-wheel drive sand riding and swimming water.
Surprisingly, this beach is generally dog friendly. Dogs are allowed off-leash at Cable Beach, approximately 150 meters south of the surf club (note the sign), plus 700 meters north of the cliffs. Dogs are still allowed at breaks, including patrolled swimming areas, but must be on a leash and out of the water. Check recent signals if this has changed.
With its wide expanses of sand, it is the perfect place for long walks on the beach with the pups, as well as swimming in the sea, especially in the evenings when the sun sets over the Indian Ocean.

Another essential experience in the Kimberley region of Western Australia is driving the Gibb River Road. Starting near Derby and traveling nearly 700km to Kununurra, this is an epic 4WD adventure with gorges, waterfalls and more along the way.
