Best Dog For Friendly – If you’re dreaming of a beach escape with your dog this summer, our guide to dog-friendly beaches in West Sussex is just what you need. Located on the south coast, between East Sussex on one side and Hampshire on the other, West Sussex is one of London’s most accessible coastal areas and is home to dog-friendly beaches all year round, even in summer. This means you can enjoy a beach day with your dog whenever you want, in less than two hours from London.
Many of the beaches we visited made you feel like you were in a foreign country as the beach stretched out against the bright blue sky with the blue green sea glistening in the sun! West Sussex beaches are generally shingle beaches, but when the tide is out, fine sand is waiting for the dogs to play on. And let’s be honest, from a dog’s point of view, they probably don’t care if it’s high or low – they’re just happy to be on an adventure that involves the ocean with their humans!

I grew up in West Sussex so it’s an area I know and love. However I never would have guessed that years later I would come back and visit old places, not only to find the best places to sunbathe as I did years ago, but to find the best beaches where Dogs are allowed and people can walk with you. hunting dog

We’ve been busy visiting lots of Sussex beaches (one has to go) and have taken a number of factors into account when compiling this list… the beach itself, dog restrictions, how easy it was to get there from London and From other dog-friendly properties nearby. If the beach has dog facilities, always bring water for your dog so they can stay hydrated, and even a cooling coat or bandana if you think they might need it. will need

Top tip: When planning a day at the beach, don’t forget to check the tide times, which you can do on this website – if your dog hasn’t been in the sea yet, it’s best to come Time is low tide. . Rest assured, whether you go at low tide or high tide, and whether the beach is pebble or sand, you can’t beat being “by the sea” with a dog, obviously.
West Beach in Littlehampton is one of the few places you’ll find sand dunes in West Sussex (the best sand dunes we found were Camber Sands Beach in East Sussex, where dogs are allowed). Located along the Arun River, West Beach stretches for miles until you reach Klimping (more on that below). In fact, Littlehampton has two beaches – East and West, on either side of the river. East Beach is reserved for summer swimmers, and so, too, is a West Beach reserved for dogs. You can reach the beach either by walking past the West Beach Cafe or by walking along the wooden walkway through the sand dunes around the cafe (our preference).

Maybe not as famous as others, but the wide beach, Lansing Beach is a great beach to visit with a dog thanks to the cool wooden perch beach cafe and the large green area behind the beach where dogs can run. The Perch is home to Harry the Dog, lots of indoor and outdoor seating for people and dogs, and a separate menu for lunch or dinner (dinner available in summer).
Another great stretch of dog friendly beach with a very popular cafe that we specifically came to visit… Bluebird Cafe. The cafe has a real beach vibe, bright and welcoming to people and dogs alike. You’ll also find a nice row of colorful beach huts a little further back from the sand – not quite the caliber of the West Wittering Beach Huts, but great for photos.
The quickest beach to reach by train from London, and like all its West Sussex counterparts, it offers miles of dog-friendly shingle beach all year round. However, after a beach holiday we are always on the lookout for a dog friendly cafe and as there is none on the beach we recommend taking the train one stop to Lancing Beach. #2 above.
If you want to get away from it all there is Klimping Beach. Littlehampton is the next beach after West Beach, although at an hour’s walk, it feels quieter and more remote (you’ll also have to walk back if you’ve left your car at the clipping). We had the beach to ourselves apart from a few other swimmers and dog walkers so it’s a great beach if your dog needs some space.

Dogs even have their own ‘dog park’ when you arrive! This is actually because the car park and beach area to the left as you arrive is an off-leash area, while the car park and beach area to the right is where dogs must be on a leash. A converted shipping container has ample parking and a small cafe with ample seating outside on the lawn.
As far as dog-friendly beaches in West Sussex go, West Wittering Beach is the dog-friendly equivalent of Camber Sands, despite being the furthest from London covered in this guide and difficult to reach by public transport. However, in summer, dogs are not allowed to drive between piles 14a-18, where there are beautiful beach huts. East Head still has plenty of places for dogs to enjoy the beach all year round, walking them around the corner from the beach houses. However, the beach is usually very crowded on summer days, so there is something to do on a summer weekend or at the end of summer.
