Take your time to check out the taproom here, as you don’t want to be rushed to choose from 17 beers, ciders and perries. Food doesn’t make the decision any easier as the seasonal menu showcases the best of the Lake District’s produce. However, only one call was made on Sunday. Choose your meat and feel their eyes widen as they appear with a huge board full of Yorkshire squash, cabbage, roast potatoes and Chef James’ secret salad dressing. Just make sure the dog is tired enough to stay under the table.

Keswick is a charming and vibrant center in the heart of the Lake District and the Royal Oak is a great place to soak up its atmosphere as you walk down the high street to a cozy bar. You may be coming from a quick visit to the beautiful scenery of Castlerigg along the cobbled path or a long walk with the dog to the Walla Crag lookout, but you will sink into the comfort of the place and find yourself a cup of coffee. You and the dog will have to squeeze in George & Dragon where you can because it’s full of award-winning figurines. Some places offer accommodation, some food, some crops. Everyone is deservedly rich. Although the dog must be on a lead, there will be good food and a friendly atmosphere created by the families, hikers, cyclists and dog walkers who come and go from the place throughout the day.

It takes a bit of time to get to this place on foot, but when you find it tucked away in Grizedale Forest between Loch Windemere and Coniston Water, you’ll be happy to give it a try. It’s dog and mud friendly (they know their guests well) and offers a simple menu to fuel you up for the ride home. There are no other liquor stores for miles, but luckily there are plenty of breweries. Many in that the owner decided to serve only beer produced within twenty kilometers of the bar.
