Dog Friendly Vacations Wyoming – You won’t find it on any list of national or state parks, but Flaming Gorge is one of the most interesting and rich natural areas in Utah.
Located south and east of Salt Lake City, in the corner of the state where Utah, Wyoming and Colorado meet, Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area offers everything a person could dream of. The focal point of the area is the Flaming Gorge Reservoir, but there are also river, hiking and biking trails, as well as scenic views.
Dog Friendly Vacations Wyoming
Flaming Gorge is classified as a national recreation area and much of the surrounding area is Ashley National Forest. Dogs are welcome at both locations as long as they follow a few rules. The main rule is that dogs must be kept on a six foot leash and under the owner’s control at all times. Otherwise, the rules are the same regardless of where you take your dog, clean up after him, behave appropriately and be respectful of the area and other people using the area. Wherever you go, always follow Leave No Trace guidelines.

The lake is big. The Flaming Gorge Reservoir can basically be divided into two parts depending on the nearby cities – the Manila side and the Dutch John side. The Manila side is flat and mostly desert.
The Dutch side of John is a mountain peak with stunning red cliffs. On this site you will find one of the most famous viewpoints, the Red Canyon Viewpoint. Don’t miss it, it’s great.
There are many places for swimming, paddling, kayaking and boating on the lake. Mustang Ridge is a popular water sports destination. Mustang Ridge also has a campground so you and your dog can enjoy the lake. In Dutch John, you can rent kayaks, paddleboards and more at Dutch John Resort or Trout Creek Flies.
If you want to go swimming, you can rent speedboats at Lucerne Marina and Cedar Springs, depending on which side of the lake you are on.

The Green River begins on the Dutch side of the lake. The Green River is one of the best fishing spots in the world… yes, the COUNTRY, world class. You can walk your dog by the river or go swimming by boat.
If fishing isn’t your thing, you can go rafting or hike the 7 kilometers of trails along the river. Rafting on the green river is quiet and suitable for beginners and dogs. Rafts can be rented at the above locations.
The trail is nice and easy, but if you plan a return trip it is 14 kilometers long. Many people decide to just walk a few kilometers and come back.
All hiking trails in the area are dog-friendly as long as your dog is on a leash.

And if you’re looking for something more adventurous, check out the Greendale/Sweat Ranch loop. It is 9.8 kilometers long and does not offer much shade. Be sure to bring enough water with you to keep yourself and your dog hydrated.
