Great Dog Vacations – Something about January makes me want to sit down at the calendar and plan a whole bunch of trips for the coming year. It’s so cold and dark outside that it’s very satisfying to curl up with your laptop and plan some events.
Although we’ve put our big international travel on hold during this pandemic, we’ve loved getting to know the Seattle area again and the amazing (and dog-friendly!) weekend getaways it has. After spending ten years in New York and Chicago, it’s great to come back and rediscover old favorites and see the new hotel innovations, boutique hotels and unique Airbnbs that have popped up here. But most of all, I loved seeing how many of them would accept dog-friendly options for your stay. I’m happiest when we take Dave and Lizzie on vacation.

Bring your best friend to experience the magic of wine country at one of our favorite hotels in the area. We have been hosting weekends at Sagecliff since 2015 and it never disappoints. Captain Whidbey is at the top of my bucket list for a 2022 vacation With recent features in publications like Vogue, this beautifully restored inn has been popping up all over my Instagram feed and I’m dying for a visit. Walla Walla is one of the most popular wine regions in the country with over 120 wineries, so I can’t think of a better place to spend a few days. We’ve written before about how much we love Tiny Getaway Homes, and we’re looking forward to a new location in the Skagit Valley. It’s a great way to escape to nature while staying warm and dry. And how amazing is that bedside window? Dogs are allowed for a fee – details here.
To be honest, Coho Oceanfront stole my heart with the hot springs right by the water. Although this Oregon beach mansion is a short drive from Seattle, its modern interior and sweeping views of the Pacific make it worth the commute. Dogs under 25 pounds are welcome in select rooms – more info here.
My New Year’s resolution is to stay at the Dream Lodge in St. Petersburg. For Edward – it should be easy since it’s only half an hour out of town. This historic seminary has been restored to a stately home on 326 acres with direct access to Lake Washington. Likewise, unwind after a day of exploring at Cedar + Elm with a trip to their spa or Pacific Northwest cuisine. Information about dogs here.
We spent a wonderful weekend at The Lodges on Vashon in January 2020 – and wrote about it here – and the memories carried me through the first months of lockdown. These 570 square foot architectural front units offer amenities such as private patios, fireplaces and soaking tubs. Plus, it’s the perfect base for Vashon Island’s beautiful beaches and hiking. Nine of the sixteen homes are dog friendly, select ‘Pet Fees’ on the booking site – more details here.

I’ve wanted to get into one of those Insta-famous frames for a very long time, and I’m determined to make it happen this year. Tye River Cabin Company offers three stunning A-frame cabins nestled in the heart of the Mountain National Forest. Baker-Snoqualmie, and all three accept pets for a fee. A word to the wise – ranking can be difficult as each of their great Insta posts gets thousands of likes. Pet information is listed under each cabin description.
We had a wonderful Easter weekend in Semiahmoo in 2019 and I was looking for an opportunity to return to its beautiful views and remote beaches that Lizzie loved to explore. A short drive from the Canadian border, this secluded resort is an ideal base for hiking and scenic views of the northern Washington coast. It’s very dog-friendly, and pups are welcomed with their bowls, a bed and (at least during our visit) some treats. Information about dogs here.
Take a trip back in time and stay in one of these vintage trailers in Dayton, Oregon. The best part? Located in Willamette Wine Country. One of my favorite trips outside of Anacortes. An hour and a half drive north of Seattle is this charming coastal town full of quaint shops, delicious restaurants and waterfront views. I love a one-of-a-kind retreat and Winthrop’s Rolling Huts certainly delivers. These tiny homes were designed by Seattle-based Olson Kundig Architects as a modern alternative to camping. Go for a walk or just relax and enjoy the beautiful mountain scenery. In their Hotels.com listing, the pet policy is listed in the “Fees and Policies” section.
This luxury resort on Hood Canal boasts that it’s been welcoming pups since 1913, and with a full selection of Fido-friendly accessories, we can believe it. Book a kayak rental, hike the trail, or just enjoy the scenery. Read dog tips here.
OK, so this isn’t technically available yet, but we’ve signed up for notifications to receive reservations as soon as these awesome RVs launch in Olympic National Park. If you haven’t heard of Tentrr, you’re missing out. We’ve stayed with them twice (in Vermont and during the Maine trip we blogged about here) and each visit was great. Basically, they set up luxury caravans on incredible private plots of land, like this beautiful orchard near Meade, Washington. You can pay a little extra to get one of their fruit pies on your site or some of their farm fresh eggs for a delicious outdoor combo. Learn more about Tentrr’s dog policy here.
