If you want a canine companion to accompany you to the Mill End Hotel, you have options. Some of our first floor double rooms, including the Swincombe and Erme, are most popular with guests who bring their dogs, as they have easy access to the outdoor areas.
Please note that dogs are charged at GBP 12 per night. Please also note that our garden rooms on the first floor are always very popular. That’s why we apply a two-night minimum stay on weekends and during the high season from May to October.

There is a side entrance to the hotel that leads straight to the boot room, where there is a large sink, plenty of dog towels and some food for the pups (and people). Use as many dog towels as you like and leave them on the floor when you’re done – they get washed in a separate wash with your towels!

“I have two big fluffy dogs who are very welcome. I often feel self-conscious about dog odors and droppings that I don’t even notice when I try to clean them up. The staff welcomed me here and the dogs. They have their own bed in the room and bowls. There is a separate area in the restaurant where you can have breakfast if you have pets and in the bar. It is close to town and also has on-site parking. There is a renovation going on, but it didn’t affect my stay. It was a great base for exploring North Devon.”
We have just returned from a fantastic 3 night stay at the Carlton. From the moment you walk in, you know you’ll love the place, with a warm welcome at check-in explaining all the hotel’s facilities and a treat for every dog - all staff are clearly signed with a friendly message to dogs. We had a Queen room on the second floor which gave us all plenty of space, a very comfortable bed, tea and coffee making facilities, TV and safe. The food at the hotel was first class – we had dinner but all 3 courses were excellent and there was plenty of choice at breakfast. It’s only a 5 minute walk from the sea and a further 15 minutes from the harbour, home to Damien Hirst’s controversial ‘Verity’ sculpture. Although Ilfracombe itself may have seen better days, there are many excellent coastal walks in both directions. We are very pleased with our choice of hotel and would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone visiting the area.
