Dog Friendly Glamping Near Me With Hot Tub

Dog Friendly Glamping Near Me With Hot Tub – Shepherd’s Retreats are two Shepherd’s Lodges in Northumberland. Within walking distance of Beadnell (popular dog friendly beaches with a great pub, lots of water sports, restaurants and shops) and a short drive from Bamburgh and Seahouse, they are a great base for exploring some of the best in the area. coast of Northumberland.

There are two houses here – one for four, the other for two. We stayed in the Sandpiper which sleeps four. Each cottage has its own enclosed garden and facilities, but there is a gate between them if you wish to rent them together.

Prices for a 2 night stay usually start from £240-£290 for 2 nights, plus a welcome pack (cleaning products, chocolate, wine and fire), use of your own hot tub, all bed linen and towels and WiFi. We had a lovely stay and feel the Sandpiper is the perfect base for exploring Beadnell.

We went with our two boys and there are only a few negatives to note – the first is that there is a bit of traffic noise from the opposite road (which dies down after 7pm) and the second is that there is no top bunk. Not very convenient if there are safety bars for small children (edit to add, owner contacted to say they have a safety bar – it was removed before our trip).

Instead of a straight up review, I thought I’d share 10 reasons to stay at Shepherd’s Retreats. Let me know if you want! You can learn more and register online.

The cottages here are very well equipped – everything you need from crockery to towels, firewood, corkscrew, washing up liquid, toiletries, cutlery, fridge, en suite bathroom, binoculars, guidebook – is fairly taken care of. Everything you need. Steve was drawn to a pair of tongs in the utensil drawer because they were missing in many places and were lost in a kitchen without them. Everything is finished to a very high standard and looks beautiful and luxurious.

I know many of you wouldn’t consider glamping without your own toilet and I understand! Shepherd’s Retreats has its own shower, sink and toilet. It’s a perfect rinse. You can see more about the bathroom in our video tour linked above/below.

It’s not a problem for us now, but when the kids were little, a walled garden was our dream. It was always a relief to sit outside and know the kids wouldn’t run out into the road. As a parent of now older children I still appreciated this privacy, it was wonderful to sit in my own space overlooking the beach and Dunstanburgh Castle.

A hot tub is at the top of many people’s list when booking a short break and Shepherd’s Retreats really delivers. Designed for two people, you heat the hot tub using a nearby stove. It takes about 90 minutes to reach temperature, but once it does, you only need to light the fire for 30 minutes or use it again every time you take a break to raise the temperature. This hot tub is the hottest tub I’ve ever been in. It’s bliss and I think heating it yourself on a wood stove adds to the experience and enjoyment. Our routine was for the kids to enjoy the bath in the afternoon and for Steve and I to jump in when the sun went down. It was beautiful.

Beadnell is a beautiful place and the beach here reminds me of parts of Cornwall. The beach is dog friendly and you can try kayaking, kite surfing, stand up paddle boarding or various water sports. The beach has exercise machines and equipment for rent.

We laughed watching a family try sea kayaking – the kids took to it straight away and struggled to get their parents to start paddling. They must have fallen about 10 times, but it was a lot of fun and well done to them for trying. In the end they gave up on him! There is even a cute little restaurant on the beach (check out their Facebook page here).

The Bait in Beadnell seems to be the heart of the community and offers reasonably priced seafood. At one point, Steve made their lobster and fries sound divine and I was going to try to run into them! There are also many activities such as yoga on the beach. The people who live here have my dream life. Beadnell is also home to the Craster Arms, one of my favorite pubs.

Seahouse and Bamburgh are 8 miles away and must visit. I recommend taking a boat trip with Serenity Tours to see the seals and Bamburgh Castle and the unmissable beaches.

Bok Pizza is just down the street – a 10 minute walk, perfect for takeout or sit down. Their pizza is divine! Check out their Facebook page for opening hours and their latest deals as they can be quite a lot. You can read Steve’s review of Box Pizza here.

If we don’t have a campfire when we sparkle, it won’t be the perfect spark to the kids. From indoor and outdoor wood-burning ovens to large grills and pizza ovens, there are plenty of options here. Back to basics at its best. I overdid the swamps!

Digital detox is good and we spent less time on our phones while at Shepherd’s Retreats. The kids played in the garden, we spent time in the hot tub, cooked/roasted marshmallows, played games (we like silly ones) and read books, but we also wanted to keep in touch with people and see if there was an Instagram. Too.

There are USB chargers (bring a car adapter) and Wi-Fi. Harry was happy to be able to watch his YouTube videos and listen to his podcasts while enjoying Harry’s chocolate before bed. When traveling with kids and teenagers, I think it’s all about compromises and I’m not going to be mad at Harry for being on my phone when he’s actively involved with us in other ways. It helps that the break is less ‘full’ and as I always say, it’s a day off for the kids too, and if they want to come in, why not. It’s about balance and choice.

Directly above the large bed is a stargazing ceiling. I’ve never stayed in one of these before and I think that’s actually the USP. It was so peaceful to lie in bed and watch the clouds drift across the sky. When was the last time you saw a cloud? I don’t remember I’ve been telling Stephen all weekend that I feel so relaxed. In the evening, when we turned off the lights, it was nice to see all the stars twinkling above us. There are blinds if you are worried about the light the next morning but we didn’t use them and it was fine.

I love that Shepard’s shelters are dog friendly. The area is great for dog walking and all beaches are dog friendly. Dogs are now allowed in the grounds of nearby Bamburgh Castle and many pubs/restaurants are dog friendly (read here for some dog friendly pubs and restaurants).

Cabins — The Hohnstead Glamping Cabins

The dog welcome package includes a VIP welcome with homemade dog treats, a garden hose for cleaning sandy paws, dog towels, food and water bowls. You can’t say the place is dog friendly because there is a non-dog owner staying and no signs of a dog staying here. Definitely the best of both worlds!

The houses were built by a local craftsman in Heckham using recycled materials. I love that our cottage used to be part of the Wreck Hotel in Whitley Bay. The cottages have been awarded a silver ecotourism award for their efforts, including using ‘A’ rated appliances, using a recycling bin, using local suppliers for welcome packs, using solar energy and using wood from 100% sustainable British forests. Ecological products for cleaning, providing nesting boxes for birds, etc. Read more about their environmental initiatives here. It is better to choose accommodation that takes serious care of the environment.

We had a wonderful stay at Shepherd’s Retreats and can personally recommend. Let me know if you want to be yourself.
