This is one of our best canine friends and we loved the place so much we visited three times! Mendocino, the city at the edge of the cloud, is very wildlife-friendly and is the gateway to California’s magnificent redwoods, along with the twin cities of Ukiah and Willits.

Treat yourself (and your dog) to a little pampering at the Stanford Inn (home of the popular Ravens restaurant, where dogs can dine in the dining room!) or the Little River Inn, one of the best dog-friendly hotels around. Mendocino with world-class bookable dog-friendly dining, the Heritage House Resort & Spa (a great dog-pampering resort), or the Fort Bragg area’s reliable Holiday Inn Express, when we were whale watching in Fort Bragg. Pet-friendly Cabins Near Redwoods, Northern California
Travelers to the Napa Valley should visit Ni St. Skates St. They’ll gravitate toward Helena, Yountville and Healdsburg, and some will head north to sleepy Calistoga. Once a rural town filled with farmland, Calistoga is now a hot spot, literally and figuratively, thanks to all the spas and mud baths found here, due to the abundant geothermal activity in the area.
Calistoga is also very dog-friendly with many pet-friendly accommodations like the Solage Resort (with a beautiful outdoor patio) or the Calistoga Motor Lodge & Spa, where we stayed and had a great experience on our last trip to Calistoga. .
Another secret to this dog-friendly trail is Old Faithful Geyser (there’s a goat farm here… what can you say?) on Tubbs Lane, which is dog-friendly. There are plenty of dog-friendly beers so you can enjoy good wine with your best friend! Add this quiet wine town to your bucket list and you won’t be disappointed!
Murphys is that fun little town in Calavera, California (or between San Francisco and Stockton) that no one tells you about. It’s definitely a good thing, not only is it a great weekend getaway with the dog, but it also has some of the most expensive and diverse wines you’ll find in California.

Fun Fact: Calaveras County was made famous in Mark Twain’s story “The Famous Leaping Frog of Calaveras County,” so it’s no surprise to see pictures of bulls all over town.
Over the weekend, my grandfather and I stayed at the lovely Courtwood Inn B&B and explored downtown Murphy on Main Street, with its many wine tasting rooms and dog-friendly restaurants.
Some of the restaurant friends we visited were Alchemy Market & Cafe, Grounds, Aria Bakery (you have to try their delicious croissants and pastries) and V Restaurant and Bar Alchemy has live music on their rooftop patio, which was perfect for us. An unusually rainy week

We also stopped at Chattom Winery (another Murphy winery) for additional wine tasting since we had already visited the tasting room. This pour is a mix of red, white and sometimes sweet wines and is very affordable at $5 to $10 per tasting, minus the tip when you buy a bottle.
In addition to wine tasting, you can also hike through Murphy Park (with a nice river) or the 17.5-mile Arnold Rim Trail, Calaveras County’s most popular road and dog trail. In short, this cozy place is perfect for a weekend getaway with your dog
Lodi, the Zinfandel capital of the world, is California’s secret wine country. With or without dogs, you can enjoy Lodi’s famous breweries, incredible natural beauty and, most importantly, cheap wine for $8 per person. Downtown Lodi has many dog-friendly restaurants, and several dog-friendly restaurants cover the patio, including this great dog-friendly bar where we stayed.
It was a great way to end the dog weekend, and one of the best dog shows ever! I recommend visiting Toasted Todd Vineyards, Oak Farms and Boquis Vineyards, known for their Iberian wines.

Santa Cruz is a mix of hippie yoga and California town, but there’s more to this place than meets the eye. Many people from the Bay Area come to Santa Cruz because of Highway F (no dogs are allowed and it’s noisy to walk anyway) or they stay in some of the noisy and expensive hotels.
