1. Anthony Michael Hall, who played Rusty Griswold, went through puberty during filming. He grew three inches during production and consequently has different heights throughout the film.

2. The film was written by John Hughes (who also wrote other ’80s classics like “The Breakfast Club” and “Sixteen Candles”) and is based on his 1979 National Magazine short story “Vacation ’58” for Lampoon. .
3. Filming “Vacation” required real-life travel for the cast and crew. Filming took place in more than 15 locations in four states.
4. “Vacation” is an R-rated film in the series. In the DVD description of the film, director Harold Ramis expressed concern that National Lampoon-style comedy might take priority over his directorial style and was particularly embarrassed by the St. Louis scene, calling it “the biggest mistake politician of Series I”. 8. When he tries to find a gas cap for the Clark family trucker in the gas station scene, Chase has no intention of throwing away the license plate when he takes it from her. The license plate flew past him and almost hit the actress who had stopped at the next pump. Then the worried look on Chase’s face became real.
9. Christie Brinkley was becoming a superstar in the modeling industry when production began and the studio wanted to include her in the film. Although she appeared in only a few scenes, she traveled with the cast and crew for most of filming. Vacation was her first film and she reprized the role in the 1997 sequel Vegas Vacation.

10. Cousin Eddie, based on Randy Quaid, clicks the tongue of someone he knew in high school and marks each place in the script where he wants to add a sound.
12. Imogen Coca, who played Aunt Edna, was reluctant to take the role, worried she wouldn’t be evil enough. “She’s one of the most beautiful women in the world,” Chase later said of Coca-Cola. 15. Lindsay Buckingham’s “Holiday Road” served as the film’s theme song, peaking at No. 82 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart thanks to the film’s popularity.
16. In the father-son scene between Clark and Rusty, where the two are drinking beer, the beer can is actually empty and the two have to pretend to take sips from it.

In Hughes’ original script, Clark clicks on Wally’s arrival at World and learns that the park is closed and the Griswolds are racing to Roy Wally’s (played by Eddie Bracken) house to keep him. and its top executives as hostages. This finale was filmed in its entirety, but was ultimately scrapped because it did not perform well with test audiences. Director Harold Ramis felt that the ending didn’t work because the film was built on the promise of seeing Valley World and the audience was deprived of that reward. 19. The Wally World parking lot scene was filmed at the Santa Anita Speedway in Arcadia, California. It was over 100 degrees during filming and the scene required the actors to run from the car to the park gates. Hall said he remembers trying to outrun Chase in a race to the door, but Chase was eight inches taller than him at the time.

20. The park scenes were filmed at Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia, California. The actors had to ride the roller coasters so many times that the expressions of fear and nausea on their faces were real.
